Position SummaryJoin UCAN as an Ameri Corps Head Start Parent Volunteer Coordinator and help parents become more engaged in their child’s education. At UCAN, we're committed to early childhood development and supporting parents in becoming more connected and informed. However, without meaningful opportunities to engage parents in their child’s education, it is easy for them to feel disconnected from that growth process.
Our goal is to build a robust parent volunteer program within our Head Start programs and provide parents with hands on opportunities in classrooms. This will not only improve the bond to their child’s education, but it will also build transferable skills that can help them achieve their own career goals.
- Conduct recruitment at UCAN Head Start family outreach events.
- Lead onboarding, training and support of parent volunteers.
- Explore new professional development opportunities for parent volunteers.
- Assist in classrooms to better understand how to support parent volunteers.
- Contribute to the development and implementation of strategies aimed at enhancing early childhood education programs.
- Maintain meticulous records and documentation of client intake interactions and eligibility determinations, ensuring accuracy and confidentiality.
- Maintain knowledge of Head Start rules, regulations, and best practices.
- Participate actively in ongoing training and professional development opportunities to enhance skills and knowledge relevant to outreach and eligibility navigation.
- Solicit parental feedback to help inform volunteer program.
- Foster a positive and inclusive work environment by promoting collaboration, respect, and empathy among team members, contributing to a culture of mutual support and growth.
- Complete and submit all necessary UCAN paperwork and reports in a timely manner.
- Attend and complete all UCAN training and service requirements including orientation, trainings, team meetings, and National Days of Service (Make A Difference Day, MLK Jr. Day, and June Service Event).
- Wear Ameri Corps apparel and/or appropriate identifiers while performing service or attending official events.
- Attend regular team meetings and trainings
- Complete agency reports regarding program progress
- Collaborate with other Ameri Corps Volunteers and UCAN staff to support community outreach events.
- Due to the nature and scope of the essential functions, the importance of personal interactions between this position, employees, clients and other members of the public, and the availability of job-related tools, equipment and resources at work, performance of the essential functions requires regular, consistent and on-site attendance while working independently and with others during our normal business hours, a combination of regular and consistent availability, accessibility and presence on-site.
- Regular and consistent attendance is required.
- Hours of work are during normal business hours and may require occasional evenings and weekends.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively communicate with diverse populations.
- Knowledge of or eagerness to learn about social service programs and the ability to interpret and speak about them accurately.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities simultaneously.
- Valid driver’s license
- 18 years of age or older, at beginning of service term.
- U.S. citizen, U.S. national or lawful permanent resident.
- Possession of a high school diploma or equivalent, or commit to earning one prior to receiving an education award.
- Ability to commit to the full term of service for which they are applying.
- Must successfully pass a National Service Criminal History Check provided through UCAN and/or Project Host Site.
