Position Summary:
The primary service area for this position is Southern Oregon (Douglas, Jackson, Josephine, and Klamath Counties). The selected candidate must reside within the service area by or before the date of hire. Assessment Specialists visit early learning programs in the service area up to three days a week. The primary purpose of this position is to provide assessments/observations in early learning programs using selected assessment tools, including the Environment Rating Scales (ERS) and Classroom Assessment Scoring System (CLASS).
Assessment Specialists complete and score assessments and write reports. They also provide professional learning and technical assistance (TA) to early learning professionals in Oregon. Assessment Specialists are assigned to a primary service area but will also be expected to travel statewide to complete assessments and provide professional learning/TA. This position requires frequent in-state travel, infrequent out of state travel, and semi-frequent night and weekend work.
Bilingual staff may be asked to use both languages across all duties and activities as needed. Bilingual staff will provide translation and interpretation in a culturally responsive manner as needed for this position.
This position is funded through external grant support. Employment beyond the current funding period is not guaranteed and will depend on the availability of future funding and ongoing performance.
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree in early Childhood Education or related field or a combination of childhood care and education training, education, certification, and minimum of 5 years relevant professional work experience
3-5 years professional work experience in early childhood care and education (birth to age 12) and/or other relevant experience such as home visiting, CCR&R, human/social services, assessment work, or childcare licensing
Ability to take initiative and work independently
Ability to adapt to changing priorities and emergent needs
Ability to communicate effectively with diverse individuals and groups, including team members, providers, program personnel, and administrators
Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities
Ability to achieve Assessment Specialist reliability within 6 months of hire and maintain ongoing reliability standards.
