Provide professional guidance to members on credit union products and services in accordance with internal policies and applicable state and federal regulations. Interview applicants for real estate loans, gather background information, and assess credit history to determine creditworthiness. Process loan applications and approve or deny requests within substantial lending authority, ensuring sound financial decisions and member satisfaction.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND BASIC DUTIES- Grow the mortgage loan portfolio by conducting outreach to realtors, contractors, and other industry partners.
- Establish and monitor control procedures for the first-mortgage loan portfolio to ensure compliance, accuracy, and performance.
- Interview loan applicants and guide members through the mortgage application process, handling loans of the highest complexity, value, and risk.
- Obtain and evaluate credit bureau reports; verify outstanding debts and calculate monthly payments for unlisted obligations to ensure complete financial assessment.
- Approve or deny real estate loan applications based on thorough analysis; communicate decisions and provide guidance on denials.
- Ensure accurate processing of all real estate loans and prepare complete loan application and documentation packets for closing.
- Coordinate payment of title company fees for title searches, legal services, and appraisals.
- Calculate and pay real estate taxes, including adjustments for tax shortages and revised monthly payments.
- Maintain accurate records of insurance and tax obligations for real estate loans.
- Train new mortgage loan officers and provide ongoing support and guidance to junior staff.
- QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum of 2 years' experience in a Mortgage Loan officer position. Preferably experience working within a credit union, financial institution, or membership-based organization. Demonstrated success in implementing process improvements that enhance member experience.
Skills/AbilitiesGood communication skills. Professional appearance, dress, and attitude. Good math skills. Ability to operate related computer applications and other office equipment including adding machine, copy machine, coin and money counting machines, and telephone. Good typing skills
- Knowledge of all secondary market mortgage programs. Strong communication skills are essential for effectively addressing member concerns and collaborating with internal departments. Additionally, problem-solving skills are critical for resolving complex member issues and ensuring a positive experience for all members.
