Job Description
Position Title: Youth Summer Hire
Reports To: Department Supervisor
Department: General Plant
Hours per Shift: 8-hour shifts with two 10-minute breaks and 30-minute unpaid lunch. Days: 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM.
Position
Purpose:
To ensure the plant site is kept clean and safe.
- Clean up sawdust, chips, shavings, bark, broken boards using shovel, broom, air hose, rake, wheelbarrow, leaf blower, etc. Requires repetitive use of hands, arms, upper body, back, legs. Worker will bend, twist, squat, push/pull (back legs) using waist, shoulders, arms, hands, and wrists to manipulate a variety of tools. Climb ladders occasionally and stand/walk for long periods of time.
- Cleanup trash and debris around property.
- Use leaf blower to clean up dust and wood chips. Use a rake, shovel and broom to clean up debris. Paint handrails and access and egress edges. Use weed wacker to remove brush/debris.
- Data entry and other clerical tasks as needed.
- Perform other duties and functions as assigned by supervisor for production and cleaning purpose.

None. The worker in this position will be standing on a slightly elevated wooden platform with rubber mats. The worker will move back and forth on this platform in front of an elevated dry conveyor measuring 3 ½ to 4 ft above the ground.

See the attached Job/Task Evaluation and Physical Capabilities portion; this position requires constant use of hearing and vision, frequent bending, twisting, pushing/pulling and reaching, and occasional lifting/carrying/pushing/pulling more than 50 lbs.
Skills- Excellent hand‑eye coordination, vision/hearing continuously, peripheral vision to see forklifts and co‑workers.
- Reading and speech required to communicate comprehension of Job Hazard Analysis, machine specific lockout procedures, monthly safety training, etc.
- Worker generally works with another cleanup member with little supervision, self‑directed in identifying and efficiently completing each task.
- Ability to prioritize, organize, and make necessary decisions.
- Do only maintenance you are trained to do and keep all body parts out of machinery.
- Always use our 14‑step lockout/tagout procedure before doing any maintenance, clearing jams, or getting into machinery for any reason; be aware of stored energy.
- Always use proper body mechanics (e.g., don’t overreach, get help as needed to push loads out).
- Use proper PPE (gloves, eye protection, hearing protection).
- Be aware of and always communicate with your co‑worker (e.g., forklift driver).
- Will be required to read and write during safety training.
