Reports To: Human Resources

Hours per shift: Requires ability to work all shifts as needed. Normal schedule will be M-F, 8-hour shifts. (2 – 10-minute breaks and 30-minute unpaid lunch)
Wage: Level 4/5 Depending on Credentials (Level 6 when criteria for Safety Coordinator has been met)
Position
Purpose:
Under general direction from the HR Manager the Safety Mentor is responsible for implementing company safety procedures, investigating incidents and accidents, and performing job site safety assessments. Will work closely with and maintain constant communication with the HR manager and safety director. Will also work closely with site leadership team.
- Safety Mentor
Essential Functions:
Conduct safety audits and inspections. Respond to emergencies and investigate accidents/incidents and recommend corrective actions. - Assist HR Site Manager with the implementation of safety policies and procedures. Coordinate safety drills and emergency response plans.
- Provide support for site learning teams. Communicate with managers to identify training needs and mapping out training plans for teams and/or individuals.
- Coordinate with Production Supervisors regarding daily process issues: safety, housekeeping, labor coverage, operating supplies, training, and job assignments. Assist in shift pass-down of information as needed.
- Develop safety training plans and schedules. Design and develop safety training programs. Choose appropriate training methods (virtual, simulated, mentoring, on the job training).
- Prepare and maintain safety documentation and reports.
- Support Swanson Group safety initiatives and be an active participant in safety programs. Promote safety culture within the organization.
- Assist in root cause analysis of incidents and participate in incident reviews.
- Assist with daily, weekly, and monthly reporting of data as requested by plant leadership team (e.g., safety incidents, observations, hazard IDs, pre-task assessments, employee turnover; progress on daily, weekly, monthly, annual reviews).
- Serve as a point of contact for safety concerns and inquiries. Lead and/or assist in crew safety training as required.
- Own the LOTO process and fall protection process.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Oversee and advise on purchases of safety and safety-related equipment; may periodically check the operation or use of safety equipment to ensure conformance with OSHA regulations.
- New Hire Orientation, benefit orientation and general HR related tasks as assigned by Supervisor.
- Data Entry and administrative tasks.
- Working Environment: Inside 90%, average temperature 70 degrees F;
Outside 10% with extreme low/high temperatures. - Noise or vibration:
Machine noise from operating equipment; forklifts nearby. - Personal Protective Equipment
Required:
Eye Protection, Hearing Protection, Rubber or Leather gloves, Approved Footwear, Job-specific PPE. - Physical Demands: See Physical Capabilities for details; constant use of hearing and vision, frequent bending/twisting, lifting up to 50 LBS without assistance; heavier lifts require assistance/lifting devices.
Physical Requirements
- Safety: Do only maintenance you are trained to do; observe lockout/tagout procedures; use proper PPE; communicate with co-workers; read/write during safety training.
- Endurance / Pushing, Pulling & Carrying: various percentages and repetitions; specify lifting, carrying and pushing/pulling weights as listed in the source content.
