Position: Journey Millwright - Swing - Roseburg, OR

Position Title: Journey Millwright

Reports To: Lead Millwright

Department: RSM Maintenance

Hours per shift: Employee works four 12-hour shifts, with three 10-minute breaks, and 30-minute unpaid lunch.

Wage: $36.65 (DOE)

Position

Purpose:

Maximize mill efficiency via preventive maintenance, repair/modification of machinery, and installation of new machinery. Works closely with Maintenance Director, lead millwright, electricians, production supervisors, machine operators, and cleanup. Follow lock out, safety and PPE policies. Responsible for completing PM’s. Whistle chasing. Fabrication and installation of equipment. Work with millwrights. Communicate with operators and lead millwright.

Position Functions
  • Perform preventive maintenance on machinery; complete PM’s as scheduled.
  • Repair, modify, and align machinery – troubleshoot equipment problems. Repair/modify mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and gravitational components of machinery. After repair is completed, check/operate repaired item for proper operation.
  • Order appropriate replacement parts and record any further work to be done on “Work List”.
  • Install new machinery. Read and follow blueprints and other specification SOP documents.
  • Learn to operate machine centers. Assist with pre-shift warm-up of machinery.
  • Housekeeping – clean and organize shop and parts.
  • Operate forklift, manlift, hoist, crane, key cutters, drills, presses.
  • Weld and fabricate using arc and wire feed welders, cutting torch and track burners.
  • Work with a Safety-First attitude using the ACES as a guideline for all decision making.
  • Special projects as assigned.
  • Work in confined spaces as required.
  • Perform other duties and functions as assigned by supervisor for production and cleaning purpose.
Working Environment

Inside 80% of the time, average temperature 80°F, extremes 10°F to 120°F. Outside 20%. Machine noise includes operating machine and nearby forklifts. Hazards: see Job Hazard Analysis. Worker stands on a slightly elevated wooden platform with rubber mats, moving back and forth in front of an elevated dry conveyor 3½ to 4 ft above ground.

Physical Demands

See attached Job/Task Evaluation and Physical Capabilities portion; requires constant use of hearing and vision, frequent bending, twisting, pushing/pulling and reaching, and occasional lifting/carrying/pushing/pulling more than 50 lbs.

Skills
  • Welding and fabricating.
  • Repair hydraulic, pneumatic, and mechanical systems, machine alignment.
  • Read blueprints.
  • Basic knowledge of electrical systems in manufacturing.
  • Identify different metal compositions and use millwright tools.
  • Use lockout procedures for fall protection.
  • Excellent hand-eye coordination.
  • Prioritize, organize and make necessary decisions.
  • Communicate effectively with Maintenance Director, lead millwright, electricians, production supervisors, machine operators, and cleanup via face-to-face meetings, radio, and telephone regarding troubleshooting, preventive maintenance, safety, etc.
  • Read and speech required to understand Job Hazard Analysis, machine specific lockout procedures, monthly safety training, etc.
Safety

1. Do only maintenance you are trained for and keep all body parts out of machinery.

2. Always use our 14-step lockout/tagout procedure before doing any maintenance, clearing jams, or entering machinery; be aware of stored energy.

3. Use proper body mechanics (e.g., don’t overreach, get help as needed to push loads out).

4. Use proper PPE (gloves, eye protection, hearing protection).

5. Be aware of and always communicate with your co-worker (e.g., forklift driver).

6. Will be required to read and write during safety training.

Physical Requirements
  • Maximum weight lifted without assistance: 50 lbs. Lifting over 50 lbs must be done with two or more people or devices.
  • Maximum weight carried without assistance: 10–50 lbs. Carrying over 50 lbs requires assistance.
