Job Information

Open to the general public and any current Municipal employee. If the person selected is not affiliated with the Anchorage Municipal Employees Association (AMEA), he or she must become a member in good standing within 31 days of beginning work.

Monday - Sunday; 1:00 p.m.

- 10:00 p.m.

Example of Duties

Under direction organize, develop, and lead/supervise youth and/or adults in various indoor and outdoor recreational activities and programs. Participate in planning and scheduling of activities for recreational facilities and programs. Schedule recreational facility use. Set up and move equipment, prepare and maintain facility area for use. Arrange for and direct various exhibits and special events. Maintain facility, scheduling, participant use, and other related records.

Collect and account for fees. Complete various reports as required. Answer program questions and enroll participants. Account for recreational supplies and materials. Maintain and operate program equipment. Perform other job related duties as assigned. Provide excellent customer service. Maintain and operate program equipment. Drive to various locations.

Minimum Qualifications / Substitutions / Preferences
  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent and 6 months experience leading, directing, supervising, coaching, or teaching children and/or adults at a recreation facility, a childcare facility, a childcare program, camps, educational institutions, therapeutic recreational programs, team, organized youth programs, or other similar programs. Must possess a valid driver’s license.
  • Prefer applicants with experience in Municipal recreation programs, principles, practices, and procedures associated with assigned programs and activities.
  • Prefer applicants with knowledge of cross country skiing/winter sports.
  • Prefer applicants with positive customer service skills.
  • Prefer applicants with experience in cash handling procedures.
  • Prefer applicants with experience using recreational and janitorial equipment.
  • Prefer applicants with the ability to lift a minimum of 25 pounds.
  • Prefer applicants with experience communicating effectively with others.
NOTICE

If selected for hire, must obtain current First Aid & CPR certifications within 30 days of hire.

If selected for hire, appointment in this position will be conditional based upon the submission of a current copy of the applicant’s Alaska Driver’s License and a current (dated within 30 days from date requested) copy of his/her Department of Motor Vehicle driving record, including a driving record from previous states if the Alaska Driver’s License was first issued within one year prior to application, documenting an acceptable driving history.

The processing fee(s) are the responsibility of the selected applicant.

If selected for hire, appointment in this position will be conditional based upon satisfactory completion of a criminal background investigation (AS 12.62.160[10]). Accordingly it will be necessary for the selected applicant to provide certain identification information and be fingerprinted. Fingerprint cards must be dated within 30 days from date requested. The processing fee of $54.25 plus the cost of being fingerprinted (variable), is the responsibility of the selected applicant and must be accomplished before beginning work.

Fees for seasonal positions will be reimbursed after hire.
