NUJLN3-Overhead Transmission Journeyman Line person
This position is responsible for building, maintaining, and repairing overhead transmission lines using approved standards under the direction of the Foreperson, General Foreperson, Project Manager, and Supervisor. Responsibilities include safe operation of equipment and operations on digger trucks and bucket trucks to construct and maintain electrical systems on de‑energized overhead transmission lines. A willingness to travel is a must.

- Installation and maintenance of wood poles, H‑frames, steel poles, lattice towers, and concrete poles.
- Operate, maintain, and repair overhead electrical power lines and systems.
- Assist in the construction of transmission and substation facilities.
- Work on various structure types of transmission lines at voltages from 69 kV to 500 kV.
- Establish OSHA and company/customer safety requirements.
- Mentor ground persons and apprentice line persons.
- Must be 18 years of age or older.
- Able to climb wood poles, steel poles, and lattice steel towers without assistance.
- Ability to work at heights up to and above 100 feet.
- Able to drive all vehicles assigned to the line crew.
- NCCCO Certification is preferred but not required.
- Experience with backhoe, trencher, excavator, skid steer, bulldozer, and other equipment required.
- Upon offer, employees must pass a pre‑employment drug screen and background/MVR check.
- CDL preferred.
- Driver license required.
- Must be willing to travel and work away from home.
- Occasional (up to 33 %):
Sitting, kneeling, and crawling. - Frequent (up to 66 %):
Stooping, squatting, body twisting, manual dexterity, reading, climbing ladders, climbing on/off truck, climbing poles, gripping, and climbing stairs. - Continuous (up to 100 %):
Standing, walking, sense of touch, speaking clearly, seeing distant, hearing, depth perception, color vision, lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, lifting 10–50 lbs., balancing.
Due to the inherently dangerous nature of the industry, employees must maintain the necessary physical and mental capability to work with hazardous equipment. Employees must have sufficient eyesight to judge distance, maintain attention for extended periods, withstand varied weather, wear personal protective equipment as required, and be capable of performing duties throughout a standard 8‑ or 10‑hour day. Work may include nights, weekends, holidays, and emergency response duties.
Employees must handle hazardous equipment, energized parts, excessive noise, varying heights, confined spaces, and manholes with proper safety protocols.
