DESCRIPTION

PICAYUNE SCHOOL DISTRICT JOB DESCRIPTION

TITLE:

K-2 Exceptional Education Teacher

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Valid Mississippi Teaching License A or better with endorsement in special education

REPORTS TO: Principal/Exceptional Education Director

JOB GOAL: To deliver of specialized instruction and/or support in the general education setting or in a special education setting, providing special education students with accommodations and modifications as outlined in the students Individual Education Plan to ensure the student has access to course content and objectives, allowing the student to have the best opportunity to achieve to their potential

TYPICAL

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Provide specialized instruction and support to special education students in the appropriate Least Restrictive environment for students assigned to the teachers caseload and for other special education students that may be in the class where the teacher is assigned
  • Collaborate with general education teachers to develop plans for differentiated instruction and appropriate learning plans for special education students ensuring students have an opportunity to achieve their potential
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers to plan and implement classroom based activities to improve academic and behavioral skills of students
  • Provide accommodations as outlined in the Individualized Education Plan (IEP) for special education students in the classroom and for testing situations
  • Create an environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the assigned students, while managing student behavior;
    Discipline students when needed, according to board policies and administrative regulations
  • Maintain a positive and effective relationship with administration, fellow teachers and assistants, parents/guardians and students
  • Effectively communicate with administration, students, parents and others working with the student, regarding progress and needs of the student
  • Facilitate initial IEP meetings with completion of all required paperwork for assigned caseload;
    Facilitate annual IEP meetings with completion of all required paperwork for assigned caseload;
    Participate and prepare for IEP meetings for students, to provide relevant data and input for a familiar student
  • Develop appropriate plans for students that will provide the support and instruction for the student to have an opportunity to achieve to their potential
  • Facilitate re-evaluation IEP meetings with completion of all required paperwork;
    Participate in determining student progress and need for continued services or determine if services are no longer appropriate;
    Participate and prepare for re-evaluation meetings for students to provide relevant data and input for a familiar student
  • Prepare progress reports to send home to parent/guardian for students being served quarterly or as designated by the administration
  • Attend regularly scheduled special education, and/or school level meetings
  • Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records, and other required documentation in a timely manner, meeting deadlines and timelines as directed
  • Comply with policies established by federal and state law and State Board of Education policies
  • Comply with all school district policy, procedures, guidelines and regulations
  • Uphold and exhibit the PSD Employee Non-Negotiables and standards established by the Mississippi State Board of Education (i.e. Educator Code of Ethics), designed to protect the health, safety and general welfare of students and educators
  • React to change productively
  • Demonstrate prompt and regular attendance
  • Support the Picayune School District Mission and Vision
  • Perform other duties as assigned
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
  • Salary established by the School Board
  • 187 day contract

EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on Evaluation of Professional Certified Personnel.
