Brown & Brown is seeking an Employee Benefits Assistant Vice President – Unit Lead to join our growing team in Roseland, NJ!
The Assistant Vice President – Unit Lead is responsible for aligning unit objectives with departmental strategy, driving operational efficiency, and enhancing team performance through recruitment, training, and development initiatives. Skilled in fostering cross-departmental collaboration, optimizing client service delivery, and ensuring compliance with internal policies and industry regulations.
How You Will Contribute- Establish, direct, and monitor unit goals and objectives aligned with the Employee Benefits department strategy and in accordance with established policies and procedures.
- Lead, mentor, and develop a team of Employee Benefits technicians and account managers supporting group health, ancillary, and voluntary benefit plans.
- Regularly evaluate staffing needs and implement short-term and long-term recruitment and retention strategies to attract and retain top talent.
- Develop and maintain a structured onboarding curriculum for new teammates to ensure successful integration into the practice and a clear understanding of benefit processes, compliance requirements, and service standards.
- Identify operational inefficiencies and develop ongoing training plans for teammates, incorporating internal best practices and external industry resources.
- Supervise, coach, and develop team capabilities to enhance professional growth, technical proficiency, and overall client experience.
- Review and prepare monthly and quarterly performance analyses to measure teammate progress against unit objectives, service benchmarks, and retention goals.
- Ensure adherence to all systems, procedures, carrier guidelines, and federal and state regulations impacting employee benefit plans, including ERISA, ACA, COBRA, and applicable state mandates.
- Establish, cultivate, and manage strong client relationships for an assigned book of business, serving as an escalation point for complex service, renewal, and compliance matters.
- Collaborate closely with sales, compliance, finance, and other departments to deliver a cohesive client experience, improve efficiencies, and streamline workflows.
- Oversee and maximize effective use of the agency management system and benefits technology platforms through regular training and process optimization.
- Promote teamwork, accountability, knowledge sharing, and a positive, solutions-oriented culture within the department.
- Drive a commitment to achieving or exceeding internal performance, service, and compliance standards.
- Participate in ongoing training and professional development to remain current on industry trends, legislative changes, carrier offerings, compliance requirements, and technology advancements.
- Maintain all required licenses and complete continuing education requirements.
- Perform all other duties as assigned.
- Manage a book of business with the team as lead.
- Assist producers with the sales of new business.
- A valid New Jersey Producer license in Life & Health (as well as any other required states and/or authorities to service the assigned book of business) must be maintained in good standing or obtained within 90 days of hire.
- High School Diploma
- Proficient knowledge of Employee Benefits coverages, including medical, dental, vision, life, disability, voluntary, and ancillary products.
- Strong working knowledge of employee benefits compliance and regulatory requirements.
- Proficient in Microsoft Windows environment, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Publisher.
- Proficient use of standard office equipment.
- 7+ years of professional experience in Employee Benefits account management, consulting, sales, or a related field.
- 5+ years of leadership or supervisory experience.
- College degree in Business Administration, Human Resources, Insurance, Risk Management, or a related field, or equivalent experience. (Preferred)
- Professional insurance designation(s) such as CEBS, GBA, RHU, CIC, or equivalent. (Preferred)
$120,000 - $150,000 Annual
The pay range provided above is made in good faith and based on our lowest and highest annual salary or hourly rate paid for the role and takes into account years of experience required, geography, and/or budget for the role.
