Position Summary

Roselle Park School District is seeking an experienced dependable, nurturing, and flexible Preschool Relief Teacher to support high‑quality teaching and learning across the district's preschool classrooms. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of early childhood development, developmentally appropriate practice, classroom routines, positive behavior supports, and inclusive preschool programming. This individual must be able to step into a variety of preschool classroom settings and maintain a safe, supportive, and engaging learning environment for young children.

The Preschool Relief Teacher will implement teacher‑provided lesson plans, support classroom routines, collaborate with paraprofessionals and preschool staff, and help ensure continuity of instruction aligned with the New Jersey Preschool Teaching and Learning Standards, district curriculum, and preschool program expectations when preschool teachers are absent, attending meetings, participating in professional development, or otherwise unavailable.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide classroom coverage for preschool teachers across district preschool classrooms as needed.
  • Implement lesson plans, daily schedules, classroom routines, and instructional activities prepared by the classroom teacher or preschool administration.
  • Maintain a safe, nurturing, inclusive, and developmentally appropriate classroom environment.
  • Support student engagement in whole‑group, small‑group, center‑based, outdoor, and individualized learning experiences.
  • Use positive guidance, redirection, and developmentally appropriate behavior supports.
  • Support students' social‑emotional development, independence, communication, and peer interactions.
  • Collaborate effectively with preschool paraprofessionals, instructional coaches, related service providers, administrators, and other school staff.
  • Follow classroom health, safety, supervision, toileting, arrival, dismissal, and emergency procedures.
  • Support students with disabilities and diverse learning needs in inclusive preschool settings.
  • Communicate relevant classroom information to the classroom teacher and/or preschool administrator at the end of the coverage period.
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding students, families, staff, and school matters.
  • Perform other preschool‑related duties as assigned by the Director of Preschool, Bilingual Education & Funded Programs or designee.
Qualifications
  • Valid New Jersey Instructional Endorsement - Elementary School Teacher N‑8 or Teacher of Preschool required.
  • Experience working with preschool‑aged children strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of developmentally appropriate early childhood practices and New Jersey Preschool Teaching and Learning Standards preferred.
  • Ability to follow lesson plans, classroom routines, and program expectations with consistency while maintaining a positive learning environment.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, organizational, and classroom management skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with teachers, paraprofessionals, administrators, families, and related service providers.
  • Demonstrated patience, flexibility, professionalism, and commitment to supporting the needs of young children.
  • Required criminal history background check and proof of U.S. citizenship or legal resident alien status.
Salary

$66,000 - $74,961. Final salary commensurate with experience and in accordance with the Roselle Park Education Association's collectively bargained agreement.
