The Roselle Park District needs you! The Dance Camp Counselor is responsible for a variety of duties and activities associated with the interaction, supervision and care of participants in the summer dance camp program. The counselor ensures the campers maintain a safe environment at all times and participate in a high‑quality program. The weekly themes are:
Ballet, Poms, Jazz, Tap, Musical Theatre, Hip Hop.
Salary: $18‑$20 per hour.
Schedule:
6 weeks of camp, from June 8 to July 17, 2026 (Monday–Friday).
- Free individual pool pass
- Must be 16 years of age or older.
- One year of experience working with children.
- Minimum of one to three years of experience working or performing in dance productions.
- Basic knowledge in the dance field.
- Demonstrates ability to make good judgments and be aware of immediate surroundings.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Self‑motivated and responsible.
- Ability to follow directions and communicate in English verbally and in writing.
- Ability to deal with residents, staff and job responsibilities under stressful conditions.
- Ability to respond to and handle children’s behaviors in a positive appropriate manner.
- CPR/First Aid certification required.
- Enjoys working outside in warm/hot weather.
- Ability to demonstrate leadership qualities to perform required work.
- Energetic and able to manage a group of participants in a manner that encourages social growth, safety and fun.
- Responsible for the direct leadership of all daily activities and events.
- Assists in organizing and structuring large and small group activities.
- Creates and teaches theater lessons to participants.
- Sets up and participates in day camp activities.
- Teaches participants basic theatre skill sets.
- Prepares participants for auditions.
- Cleans up after activities and at the end of the day.
- Ensures all personal property of the campers is carefully labeled and stored properly; checks positions upon arrival.
- Campers and counselors bring sack lunches and eat together; uneaten food is disposed of carefully; lunches should never be left outdoors or in the sun; fast‑food/restaurant purchases are prohibited during camp hours.
- Maintains headcounts of campers in the morning and throughout the day.
- Supervises campers and is present on the pool deck and in the water during swim times.
- Enforces safety rules during day camp activities; completes accident report forms when necessary.
- Notifies the Camp Director and Recreation Supervisor of problems or concerns with individual campers or staff members.
- Administers first aid to staff and campers, as needed.
- Attends required meetings, training and special events as required.
- Is aware of camp medications and allergies.
- Encourages positive peer relationships within the group.
- Demonstrates a mature and professional attitude through dependability, punctuality, and genuine awareness.
- Treats public complaints and concerns with the utmost attention; is courteous at all times.
- Maintains a clean, pleasant appearance and displays a positive, enthusiastic and professional manner.
- Performs other duties as necessary.
