SUMMARYUnder the supervision of the Recreation Supervisor, the Lead Preschool Teacher is responsible for providing a safe, positive, and developmentally appropriate learning environment for preschool aged children. The teacher must plan, organize, implement, and evaluate their curriculum and teaching methods on a continuing basis.
QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS- The candidate must have a Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education, Elementary Education, or related field and/or current Illinois teaching certificate, or at least 3 years of experience in an early childhood setting.
- Position requires a basic knowledge of Microsoft Office, First Aid and CPR certification.
- Instruction:
Develop and conduct a developmentally appropriate preschool curriculum. - Plan and implement appropriate activities to meet the physical, emotional, intellectual, and social needs of preschool aged children.
- Provide weekly and monthly schedules of plans and activities.
- Develop activities that introduce beginning math and literacy concepts.
- Provide various experiences and activities including songs, projects, games, and stories.
- Ensure equipment and the facility are clean, well maintained, and safe at all times.
- Establish procedures including acceptable rules and disciplinary policies.
- Be familiar with emergency procedures.
- Supervision:
Supervise children in the preschool. - Ensure children are supervised at all times.
- Provide a safe and secure environment for children to feel comfortable.
- Establish routines and provide positive guidance and reinforcement.
- Clearly and effectively communicate in a manner that children understand.
- Integrate children with special needs in a positive and respectful manner.
- Implement positive discipline when required.
- Observe children and make note of progress.
- Build self-esteem and comfort children.
- Communication:
Communicate with staff, parents, and members of the community. - Discuss identified problems and needs with supervisor and coworkers as appropriate.
- Keep parents informed of program expectations, activities, and their child’s progress.
- Discuss children’s development with parents.
- Participate in community activities.
- Perform other related duties as required.
- Demonstrate good judgment and problem‑solving skills.
- Reinforce appropriate safety practices and standards as applicable.
- Maintain inventory and order all program supplies while operating within the budget.
- Attend preschool staff meetings and participate in in‑service trainings.

$16-$17/hour DOQ;
Mondays & Wednesdays 8:30a-12p, 7+ hours/week, mornings;
School Year starts around August 10th.
