Youth Services Librarian (Grade School Focus) - Part-Time 20 Hours​/Week

The Roselle Public Library District Youth Services Department is looking for a passionate and proactive Youth Services Librarian to join our department on a part-time basis as we excitedly work toward the construction of a new facility, expected to be completed in 2027. Our department oversees our reference desk, programming, outreach, 3D printer services, departmental social media, and other tasks that keep us busy, and our preparation for a new building means we are experiencing a lot of ongoing change, making flexibility, patience, and a sense of humor a must!

Primary duties will involve creating outstanding events and experiences for our community by:

• Serving as a Person in Charge when necessary
• Planning and presenting engaging programming for children from birth through sixth grade, with a quarterly focus on Grades 1-2 and a weekly Family Storytime (0-6 years)
• Working with the Youth Services manager to provide direction and implementation of social media content, with creative assistance provided by select Youth Services peers, that highlights departmental programs, services, and resources
• Working with the Youth Services Manager and Teen Librarian (based in the Adult and Teen Services Department) to oversee teen volunteering in Youth Services, as well as participating in regular joint Youth/Teen programming (Grades 4-6)
• Working with the Youth Services Manager to oversee the coordination of Read to a Pet programming
• Providing 3D Printing services to community members of all ages and exploring additional Maker equipment that will be in our new library
• Planning and carrying out outreach programs and events
• Providing reference and readers’ advisory assistance on our service desk
• Selecting for assigned collection areas, including the Reader collection

• Minimum one year of relevant volunteer or paid experience, including experience working directly with children, families, and members of the public
• Valid Illinois Driver’s License with access to a safely operating vehicle and proof of automobile insurance

• Master’s Degree in Library & Information Science highly preferred but may be substituted with a combination of relevant Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree and relevant work experience
• 3-5 years in a public library setting
• Ability to speak multiple languages a plus, particularly Polish or Spanish

This position requires availability for daytime, evening, and weekend hours and the flexibility to adapt the schedule according to the needs of the department.
The schedule will operate on a rolling four-week basis, with one regular evening every week, one rotating evening every four weeks, and one Saturday/Sunday weekend shift every four weeks.

Week 1: WED, 12:45-5pm; THUR, 4:45-9pm; FRI, 9am-1pm; SAT, 9am-5pm
Week 2: SUN, 12:45-5pm; WED, 1-9pm; THUR, 4:45-9pm; FRI, 9am-1pm
Week 3: WED, 12-5pm; THUR, 1-9pm; FRI, 9am-5pm
Week 4: WED, 12-5pm; THUR, 1-9pm; FRI, 9am-5pm

$24.50 to $28.70 per hour, depending on qualifications and in accordance with internal equity
