Manufacturing Engineer, Automation & Mechatronics Engineer
Join our M&R Engineering team as a Mechanical Engineer I, II, or III, specializing in Machine Design, and working onsite at our Roselle, IL facility where innovation meets high-performance automation. You’ll design and develop advanced machinery used in textile, digital, and screen-printing applications. This includes high-speed automation systems, pick-and-place equipment, custom packaging solutions, and robotic integration.
This role collaborates across engineering and manufacturing teams to deliver innovative, efficient, and manufacturable solutions that support the evolving needs of the textile and printing industries from concept through production launch.
We’re seeking a creative problem-solver with a passion for machine design, strong automation expertise, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative environment. This is an opportunity for a Mechanical Engineer Level I, II, or III, based on experience and qualifications.
Core
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop product documentation, including operating instructions and technical literature for textile, screen, and digital printing equipment
- Perform mechanical design analysis to ensure machines meet performance, durability, and production requirements within printing environments
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define machine requirements aligned with textile and printing production processes
- Create and maintain technical documentation, including drawings, routings, bills of materials (BOMs), and engineering change notices (ECNs)
- Support prototyping, manufacturing, and assembly processes to ensure the successful production of printing equipment, including hands‑on support during the assembly process
- Provide technical expertise to manufacturing teams using CAD tools and engineering documentation specific to printing machinery
Mechanical Engineer I will also perform the following responsibilities:
- Collaborate closely with the engineering team and project leaders to develop functional machines for textile, digital printing, and screen‑printing equipment, including automation and robotic applications.
Mechanical Engineer II will also perform the following responsibilities:
- Develop concepts and fully functioning machines for textile, digital printing, and screen‑printing equipment, including automation and robotic applications.
- Manage all stages of mechanical design from concept through manufacturing, assembly, and commercialization.
- Lead technical staff, assembly teams, and junior engineers on various stages of the projects.
Mechanical Engineer III will also perform the following responsibilities:
- Plans and runs multiple projects simultaneously
- Lead a multidisciplinary team and manage all stages of new projects from concept to commercialization.
- Evaluate and optimize design from the DFM, performance, and cost perspective.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives related to product design, manufacturing efficiency, quality, and cost reduction.
- Evaluate new technologies, materials, and processes to enhance product performance and maintain competitive advantage.
- Mentor junior engineers and provide technical guidance across project teams.
- Strong understanding of mechanical engineering principles and machine design
- Knowledge of Design for Manufacturing (DFM) and process optimization in high‑speed production settings
- Analytical thinking and problem‑solving skills with strong attention to detail
- Effective communication and teamwork skills across engineering and production teams
- Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines in a fast‑paced manufacturing environment
- Independent decision‑making and accountability
- Adaptability in a highly innovative, technology‑driven printing industry
Education and Experience for Level I:
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or related field
- 0-3 years of experience in machine design. Preferably within the packaging, automation, printing, or similar industries
- Experience in the machine build process is a plus
- Familiar with machine motion controls, including pneumatic systems, PLC systems, motor controls, and mechanical motion control systems. Experience in this field is a plus
