Position Overview

We're seeking a highly skilled Davenport Screw Machine Set-Up Operator to join our precision machining team. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-paced manufacturing environment, has deep hands-on experience with multi-spindle screw machines, and takes pride in producing high-quality, repeatable parts. You'll be responsible for setting up, troubleshooting, and optimizing Davenport machines to meet production goals and maintain exceptional quality standards.

Key Responsibilities
  • Set up and operate Davenport multi-spindle screw machines according to job specifications, blueprints, and process sheets.
  • Select, install, and adjust tooling, cams, gears, collets, and attachments required for each job.
  • Perform machine changeovers efficiently to minimize downtime.
  • Diagnose and correct machining issues such as tool wear, dimensional deviations, chip control, and surface finish problems.
  • Monitor production runs to ensure consistent part quality and adherence to tolerances.
  • Conduct first-piece inspections and periodic in-process checks using micrometers, calipers, gauges, and other precision measuring tools.
  • Collaborate with engineering, quality, and maintenance teams to improve processes and resolve technical challenges.
  • Maintain clean, organized work areas and follow all safety protocols.
  • Train or mentor junior operators as needed.
Qualifications
  • 3–5+ years of hands-on experience setting up and operating Davenport screw machines (Model B, Model D, or equivalent).
  • Strong understanding of multi-spindle machine operation, tooling, feeds/speeds, and cam design.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, GD&T, and job travelers.
  • Proficiency with precision measuring instruments and inspection techniques.
  • Mechanical aptitude with strong troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Commitment to quality, safety, and continuous improvement.
Preferred Skills
  • Experience with high-volume production environments.
  • Familiarity with SPC, lean manufacturing, or process optimization.
  • Basic understanding of machine maintenance and lubrication systems.
  • Ability to design or modify cams is a plus.
Work Environment &

Physical Requirements
  • Standing for extended periods, lifting up to 40 lbs, and working around moving machinery.
  • Exposure to oils, coolants, and typical shop conditions.
  • Use of PPE as required.
