parking control officer

this recruitment is to fill one (1) part-time vacancy in the public safety department and to establish an eligibility list to be used for future vacancies.

work schedule:

the position works a variable work schedule with an average of 8 to 24 hours per week, and a maximum of 28 hours per week, limited to 1,000 hours per fiscal year and is "at-will". Candidates must be available to work all assigned shifts, including evenings, weekends, split shifts, and holidays.

under general supervision, patrols assigned areas of the city enforcing parking regulations and issuing citations; assist in the removal of abandoned vehicles from city streets; maintains a variety of records; performs other related duties as required.

Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • patrols the city in a motor vehicle.
  • enforces parking regulations and issues citations as appropriate.
  • answers questions and provides information concerning parking regulations.
  • provides helpful information for visitors to the area.
  • notes and reports problems with parking.
  • maintains activity and citation logs.
  • identifies and assists in the removal of abandoned vehicles on city streets.
  • conducts and directs traffic in emergency situations.
  • operates a computer terminal to prepare and maintain records, files, and reports.
  • appears in court and presents evidence for disputed citations.
  • responds to requests for assistance with traffic control problems; keeps vehicles supplied for work shifts.
  • issues parking citations for violation of vehicle code and municipal code; requests towing services as needed; reports unsafe acts, conditions, accidents, and injuries.
  • reports criminal activity, graffiti, vandalism, and animal control needs.
  • promotes the city's goals and priorities in compliance with all policies and procedures.
  • supports the relationship between the city of rosemead and the constituent population by demonstrating courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with visitors and city staff; maintains absolute confidentiality of work-related issues, client records, and city information; performs other duties as required or assigned.
education, training, and experience guidelines

high school diploma or ged equivalent and one year of customer service and/or public contact experience is required. Local government experience is desirable.

  • city policies and procedures.
  • applicable federal, state, and city codes, laws, statutes, and ordinances.
  • public relations techniques used in public safety support activities.
  • occupational hazards and safety precautions.
  • geography, roads, and landmarks of city and surrounding areas.
  • principles of record keeping and records management.

  • interpreting and applying statutes, rules, ordinances, codes, and regulations.
