Overview
The Applications Manager is responsible for supervising and maintaining the organization’s repository of software applications. The role involves planning and coordinating processes required for the provision of user applications and systems necessary for business operations, and guiding the user group on design, development, and deployment of mission‑critical information and software systems.
Responsibilities- Ensure that applications meet business requirements, end‑user requirements, and system goals, and resolve system issues.
- Review and analyze existing application effectiveness and efficiency, and develop strategies to improve or leverage these systems.
- Disseminate knowledge of application‑usage best practices.
- Research and recommend software products and services to support procurement and development efforts.
- Evaluate, install, configure, and deploy new applications, systems software, products, and enhancements across the enterprise.
- Collaborate with analysts, designers, and system owners in testing new software programs and applications.
- Analyze documentation and technical specifications of new applications to determine functionality.
- Ensure new software integrations meet functional requirements, system compliance, and interface specifications.
- Design, develop, and install application enhancements and upgrades.
- Coordinate feasibility studies for software and system products under consideration for purchase, and provide advice based on findings.
- Contribute to pre‑testing phases by evaluating proposals and identifying potential problem areas.
- Negotiate contracts with software and service providers.
- Liaise with software suppliers for timely problem resolution and emergencies.
- Liaise with network administrators and software engineers to assist with quality assurance, program logic, and data processing.
- Compile and maintain an inventory of company software and systems assets and associated contracts or agreements.
- Develop and deliver training and documentation for end users; conduct user clinics as needed.
- Develop, distribute, and coordinate in‑depth end‑user reviews for modified and new systems or applications.
- Direct the application team in support of business operations.
- Manage and provide guidance to the Applications Support Team, including writing annual performance evaluations and giving balanced feedback.
Four‑year university degree or college diploma in computer science or related field.
Experience- Minimum 5 years of direct experience managing applications and/or systems management.
- Minimum 3 years of experience managing a team.
- Experience overseeing the direction, development, and implementation of software solutions.
- Hands‑on experience with automated software management tools.
- Strong knowledge of system and software quality assurance best practices and methodologies.
- Experience with core banking software applications (e.g., FIS, Fiserv, Finastra, Temenos, Jack Henry).
- Working knowledge of network and PC operating systems.
- Working knowledge of current network hardware, protocols, and standards.
- Knowledge of applicable data privacy practices and laws.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Excellent listening and interpersonal skills.
- Strong customer‑service orientation.
- Good project management skills and/or substantial exposure to project‑based work structures.
- Ability to communicate ideas in both technical and user‑friendly language.
- Ability to conduct research into application issues and products.
- Highly self‑motivated and directed.
- Attention to detail.
- Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high‑pressure environment.
- Experience working in a team‑oriented, collaborative environment.
Base salary range: $90,000 – $105,000 per year, determined by job‑related knowledge, skills, experience, and location.
Eligible for a discretionary bonus.
