Position Summary:
Cultural Family Advocate reporting to the Equity and Inclusion Department to serve students and families, and school administration and staff.

Qualifications:
  • Prior experience working effectively with and understanding the needs of culturally and ethnically diverse populations.
  • Working with culturally and ethnically diverse students and their families in an educational setting.
  • Knowledge of K-12 school system.
  • Knowledge of issues related to intercultural competency.
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills, including cross cultural communication.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Speaking and writing skills preferred;
    Spanish and/or Arabic preferred.
  • Experience developing and presenting professional workshops.
  • Associates degree (preferred) in education, behavioral sciences, social work, or related field.
  • Available for flexible work schedule, including some evenings, weekends, and summer hours by request.
  • Must have reliable transportation to travel between sites as necessary.
  • Prior experience organizing student and family engagement events.
  • Job Summary:
  • Help diverse students understand and navigate the school system to achieve academic success, with a specific focus on meeting the needs of students and families.
  • Assist and support students with cultural adjustment and social emotional development.
  • Work cooperatively with school staff to support students' full development in the school system.
  • Help provide restorative support in a variety of situations and conflicts that may arise due to cultural differences and refer to professional staff when appropriate.
  • Act as a communication liaison between parents and schools through the use of email, phone calls, and language interpretation tools.
  • Facilitate family participation in conferences and other school and district activities. Empower families in their children's educational experience.
  • Facilitate student groups and coordinate student and parent leadership opportunities.
  • Assist in implementation of programs and appropriate activities or interventions that enhance student academic achievement.
  • Implement the Check and Connect intervention with fidelity to improve student attendance, engagement, and academic success. Accurately document and track program data to guide intervention strategies and collaborate with school support teams. Training will be provided.
  • Inform and educate district staff on issues around cultural competency, equity and inclusion.
  • Provide staff with information on local and state resources and the various cultures represented in their schools.
  • Represent the district in community organizations and functions. Keep district informed of community concerns.
  • Willingness to assist with document translations and interpretation, if applicable.
