Education and/or Experience
- Current State of Minnesota Special Education License.
- Administrative License (preferred).
- Experience working in a school setting or with children ages birth through 22.
- Demonstrated experience and proficiency working with a culturally, ethnically, racially and socioeconomically diverse school community is preferred.
- Demonstrated experience supporting student transitions across multiple educational levels (Early Childhood, Elementary, Secondary, Transition).
- Experience working within or overseeing center-based special education programming (e.g., ASD, EBD, DCD settings).
- Thorough understanding of the laws, rules, and regulations of special education, including Least Restrictive Environment.
- Strong understanding of the role of special education, from identifying needs through the development of an IEP that includes aligned services and goals.
- Knowledge of best practices in the field of special education and implementation strategies for academic instruction, sensory and positive behavior support, development of routines, etc.
- Knowledge and familiarity with evidence-based practices and curricula for SEL, literacy, and math.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to work efficiently, effectively, and cooperatively with multidisciplinary teams.
- Ability to relate positively and collaborate with students, staff, and the community.
- Ability to evaluate student data to determine appropriate program placements.
- Strong organizational and data-management skills
- Coordinate and support smooth transitions for students moving between levels (Early Childhood, Elementary, Secondary, and Transition) with heavy emphasis on ECSE to Kindergarten transitions.
- Collaborate with special education teams, related service providers, and families to develop transition plans for incoming students, including classroom observations.
- Support building teams in understanding student needs, accommodations, specialized instruction, and service delivery models prior to student entry.
- Serve as the central point of contact for all new-to-district (move-in) students who may require elementary center-based placements, reviewing incoming IEPs and evaluation reports.
- Facilitate placement discussions in collaboration with special education coordinators for program planning to ensure least restrictive environment considerations for students who need specialized programming and/or who move into the district with special education needs.
- Develop and maintain special education transition timelines, procedures, and guidance documents aligned with district and state requirements.
- Provide professional development and consultation to staff regarding research-based practices and transition support.
- Support with planning and facilitation of Extended School Year (ESY) programming.
- Collaborate with the District 196 Special Education leadership team and align practices with general education.
- Ability to facilitate, write, and implement Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and Behavior Support Plans.
- Manage data systems to ensure accurate tracking of center-based placements and program capacity.
- Other duties as assigned.
