Job Title

This position will be open until August 16th. Performs work reviewing, processing, and issuing building permits, collecting and processing fees, assisting the general public with inquires, scheduling building inspections, completing required reports, and related work as apparent or assigned. Work is performed under the supervision of the Community Development Director.

Essential Duties
  • Assists the general public, other departments, and outside agencies by phone, email, and in person; receives and responds to inquiries and complaints; answers questions and provides information; directs inquiries to the appropriate resource as needed.
  • Provides building application forms to the general public; assists applicants with filling out routine permit applications and forms.
  • Schedules requests for field inspections; maintains inspection activity log.
  • Administers the septic inspections program, the sequential code enforcement program, the rental license program, and other projects related to the Department.
  • Maintains accurate and timely records of the permit process; inputs and maintains data on permitting activity; generates required monthly and annual reports.
  • Attends meetings and takes minutes during regular work hours as requested; serves as back up for Planning Commission meetings and packet preparation, postings, and minute taking as needed.
  • Establishes and maintains protocol for department files; maintains departmental records, databases, reports, documents, and spreadsheets including scanning/Laserfiche.
  • Receipts and routes collected fees to the finance department
Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Associates/Technical degree
  • One to three years of experience in providing progressively responsible administrative support or similar support staff function, assisting the general public, processing documents and records
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Valid driver's license

Desirable Qualifications

  • Familiar with building construction and inspection terminology.
  • Familiar with zoning ordinances and terminology.
  • Familiar with City operations and permitting.

Working Conditions Physical Requirements and Activity This work requires the frequent exertion of up to 10 pounds of force and occasional exertion of up to 25 pounds of force; work regularly requires standing, walking, sitting, speaking or hearing, using hands to finger, handle or feel, reaching with hands and arms and repetitive motions and frequently climbing or balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling, pushing or pulling and lifting.

Sensory Requirements Work has standard vision requirements; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word and conveying detailed or important instructions to others accurately, loudly or quickly; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels and to receive detailed information through oral communications and/or to make fine distinctions in sound.

Sensory Utilization Work requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data, visual inspection involving small defects and/or small parts, using of measuring devices, operating machines, operating motor vehicles or equipment and observing general surroundings and activities. Environmental Conditions Work has no exposure to environmental conditions; work is generally in a moderately noisy location (e.g. business office, light traffic).
