The Quality Engineer – Rotating Equipment role is responsible for supplier quality assurance, technical sourcing support, and performance management of rotating equipment mechanical services. The role ensures equipment repairs, components, and services conform to engineering specifications, quality requirements, and risk profiles while driving continuous improvement in supplier capability, repair quality, and delivery performance.
Our TeamThe Machinery Reliability Technical Group (MRTG) supports safe, reliable, and efficient refinery operations by improving the performance of critical rotating equipment. Led by Pat Anderson, our team partners across Operations, Maintenance, and Engineering to solve complex equipment challenges, eliminate defects, and create long-term value for the Pine Bend refinery.
What You Will Do Quality Control Programs & Documentation- Implement and maintain inspection and quality control requirements.
- Maintain equipment records to support lifecycle history and future reliability decisions
- Support the application and continuous improvement of machinery specifications, standards, and approved supplier requirements.
- Verify supplier compliance with applicable specifications, drawings, and manufacturer requirements.
- Support Approved Manufacturer / Supplier Lists by providing technical and quality input.
- Qualify, evaluate, and periodically reassess machinery suppliers and repair shops based on technical capability, quality performance, and risk.
- Lead supplier quality and performance improvement efforts by monitoring key metrics, conducting failure analyses, drive corrective actions, and developing supplier capabilities to improve repair quality and reliability.
- Provide supplier quality engineering support for offsite machinery repairs, overhauls, and specialized services.
- Review and approve repair scopes , inspection plans, and quality documentation to ensure conformance with specifications and engineering requirements.
- Support factory and repair facility visits, inspections, and audits as needed to verify workmanship, controls, and adherence to approved processes.
- Act as a technical quality resource during critical repairs, emergent equipment events, and turnaround activities.
- Partner with Procurement on sourcing strategies and supplier selection.
- 5+ years of experience in supplier quality, manufacturing quality, rotating equipment repair, maintenance, or reliability engineering roles including experience with a quality management program
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Engineering Technology, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Maintenance, or related discipline, or equivalent experience.
- Experience in establishing and implementing a quality assurance program that uses data to drive program improvements.
- Prior involvement in qualifying new repair shops or machinery suppliers based on capability, QA performance, and risk profile.
- Experience partnering with Purchasing and Legal groups on developing quality assurance language for contracts and terms & conditions that drive accountability around quality from vendors.
- Experience serving as a technical or quality point-person during turnarounds (TA) or critical equipment events.
For this role, we anticipate paying $120,000 - $160,000 per year. This role is eligible for variable pay, issued as a monetary bonus or in another form.
