Lake Superior Consulting is looking for Utility Locators (both experienced and entry-level). Hiring locations include St Paul, Cottage Grove, Hastings, Rosemount, Apple Valley, South St. Paul, Woodbury, Lakeland, Afton, Eagan, and surrounding areas.

Positions are daytime, full‑time roles requiring overtime, weekend work, and an on‑call rotation. Training is provided.

Your Responsibilities as a Locator
  • Respond to locate requests within the legal time limit.
  • Mark found utilities using the APWA coloring system.
  • Read and interpret utility maps and prints to identify the size and type of underground utility.
  • Complete required paperwork for locates and line crossings/excavations.
  • Work safely by adhering to LSC and client guidelines and procedures.
  • Communicate work scopes and responsibilities among project‑specific field teams.
  • Complete and maintain operator qualifications (OQs).
  • Operate and use electronic locating equipment.
  • Gather data, prepare records and reports in a timely manner.
  • Perform daily safety meetings and submit daily report documentation.
  • Generate and gather equipment for project kick‑offs.
  • Ensure work supports company goals.
  • Document and report any incidents, near misses, or improvement opportunities.
  • Work in compliance with all technical procedures and guidelines.
  • Be available for on‑call rotation.
What we need from you
  • Must be 21 years of age or older; must have a valid driver’s license with a safe driving record.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Willingness to work outdoors in various weather conditions, including extreme heat, cold, rain, and snow.
  • Physical stamina to walk, bend, and lift up to 50 lb. in challenging environments.
  • Availability to work overtime, weekends, and on‑call rotation.
  • Prior utility locating experience is a plus, but training is provided.
  • Capability to operate a company vehicle, use hand and power tools.
  • Comfortable working in confined spaces.
  • Ability to distinguish between colored wiring and underground utility markings.
  • Strong critical thinking, organizational, problem‑solving, and troubleshooting abilities.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills for interacting with colleagues, customers, contractors, and homeowners.
  • Commitment to safety and high‑quality service.
  • Comfortable using a laptop, Microsoft Office, and a cell phone.
Physical Requirements and Demands
  • Work in a physically demanding outdoor environment.
  • Traverse rugged terrain, excavations, and work around pipe and equipment.
  • Travel to off‑site locations for extended periods.
  • Stand for long periods.
  • Lifting occasionally up to 50 lb.
  • Exposure to all types of weather and terrain.
  • Work long hours when projects demand.
  • Sit at a desk and work with a computer for extended periods.

Your compensation will be based on experience and location. The anticipated hourly range is $21–25 per hour.
