JOB DESCRIPTION:
Primary
Purpose:
Building capacity of staff who work within the Early Childhood Special Education (ECSE) programs in order for them to provide high quality programming and professional practices for our Early Childhood students. Provide knowledge, guidance, and support to building level administrators, early childhood special education staff, and related service staff in the area of professional development, programming, and service delivery to increase student achievement.
Provide assistance and support to the Special Education Department in the development, implementation, and evaluation of department and district goals.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Major Responsibilities and Duties
* Collaborate with, coach, and educate special education teams in developing appropriate opportunities for students with disabilities, including assessments to identify pathways of interest, strengths, and areas of needed growth to develop meaningful goals.
* Assist in the oversight and monitoring of state performance plan indicators
* Ensure staff development and quality programming for students by reviewing, auditing and evaluating documents, Individual Education Plans, in accordance with district procedures, state rules and federal regulations.
* Provide leadership in the development, support, and monitoring of a continuum of services for students with disabilities, implementation of effective classroom strategies, as well as support effective IEP meetings
* Monitor Early Childhood Special Education rosters.
* Oversee the Pegasus application and enrollment.
* Develop and train Early Childhood Special Education Staff in district procedures, state rules, and federal regulations
* Monitor the implementation of the ECSE curriculum with appropriate teaching strategies.
* Monitor the Early Childhood special education supplies, materials and equipment.
Instruction
* Establish a positive instructional/learning environment that reinforces appropriate student behavior, according to student interests and abilities and is conducive to learning.
* Develop and adapt a variety of instructional activities to meet students' individual goals/objectives.
* Assess, monitor and chart behavioral/social-emotional, academic and functional progress of students.
* Establish and implement classroom routines and management systems for students in alignment with program expectations.
* Establish a varied environment which accommodates the differing manners by which children learn.
* Employ appropriate instructional and assistive technology to engage students.
* Model appropriate expectations and instruction, as necessary to assist paraprofessional staff assigned to classrooms.
* Develop instructional materials and employ strategies appropriate to student needs.
Interpersonal Relations/Communications
* Maintain cooperative, positive working relationships with parents, staff, district personnel and community service agencies.
* Maintain ongoing appropriate and timely written and oral communication with parents, staff, district personnel and community service agencies, when appropriate.
* Attend various school and program related meetings, when appropriate.
* Collaborate with staff to ensure optimal progress of all students.
* Attendance at work is an essential function.
* Perform other duties as assigned.
EXPERIENCE:
Minimum Experience:
* Two years of successful special education teaching experience
QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum
Education/Certification:
* Bachelor's degree in special education or related field
* Valid teaching certification
* Valid Texas driver's license
* Eligible for coverage under the District's vehicle insurance program
Special Knowledge/
Skills:
* Knowledgeable about current federal and State Board of Education rules and laws governing evaluation and instructional programs for students suspected or identified as disabled and eligible for special education services
* Ability to communicate with all levels of special needs students and their parents
* Skills in designing, implementing and monitoring systems to ensure compliance with special education rules and regulations
* Strong organizational, communication and interpersonal skills
