Part-Time New Teacher Mentor
JOB DESCRIPTION:
Primary
Purpose:
To mentor beginning teachers throughout their first year for the purpose of support and professional growth.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Major Responsibilities and Duties
* Promote the personal and professional well-being of new teachers through consistent classroom monitoring and feedback.
* Plan and prepare regular meetings with the new teachers for professional growth.
* Maintain confidential mentor-mentee relationship with new teachers and work with Director of Staff Development to address any concerns.
* Support new teachers in organizing a safe, accessible and efficient classroom.
* Support the new teacher in establishing, communicating and maintaining clear expectations for student behavior.
* Support the new teacher in leading a respectful class of actively engaged learners.
* Support the new teacher in the T-TESS process.
* Complete weekly documentation of new teacher visits and observations.
* Prepare & facilitate new teacher staff development to support teacher growth.
* Participate in monthly mentor team meetings and training events.
* Other duties as assigned by supervisor or designee.
EXPERIENCE:
Minimum Experience:
* Ten years of classroom teaching experience preferred
QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum
Education/Certification:
* Valid certification as required by the state of Texas
Special Knowledge/
Skills:
* Extensive knowledge of instructional methods and strategies
* Knowledge of curriculum
* Personable, flexible, ability to work well with others

Ability to concentrate (detailed work), communicate effectively(verbal and written); interpret policy, procedures, and data;reason, understand verbal instructions, analyze, differentiate, read, coordinate district functions, compile, compute, instruct, and maintain emotional control under stress. Light lifting andy carrying (under 15 pounds),sitting, standing, walking (within and surrounding campuses), climbing (stairs and ramps). balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, driving, travel (daily district-wide), outside/inside, microwaves, sunlight exposure, works around machinery with moving parts.
