The Sulzbach-Rosenberg branch of the Fraunhofer Institute for Environmental, Safety, and Energy Technology Fraunhofer UMSICHT develops process engineering solutions in the field of carbon conversion (next-generation biofuels, recycling technologies for plastics and composite materials, biochar), low-emission combustion and firing technology, and the provision and storage of process heat. It also has expertise in waste and resource strategies and life cycle assessment (LCA).

With a focus on process engineering and plant construction, it supports clients from the project idea through pilot plants and demonstrators to market launch.

We are the  Recycling Technologies  group at Fraunhofer UMSICHT in Sulzbach-Rosenberg. We specialise in innovative technologies for the recycling and recovery of valuable materials from waste and complex material streams. Working with us, you will tackle current challenges relating to a resource-efficient and circular economy, whilst contributing your own ideas and conducting research with a practical focus.

  • Planning, conducting and evaluating laboratory and pilot-plant trials
  • Optimising product yields and quality by adjusting process parameters
  • Sampling, preparation and characterisation of raw materials
  • Evaluation and scientific documentation of the results
What you contribute

Must have:

  • A degree in environmental engineering, process engineering, chemical engineering or a comparable discipline
  • An interest in recycling, pollutant treatment and the circular economy
  • An enthusiasm for experimental laboratory and pilot plant work
  • Good written and spoken German (C-level) and English (B-level)

Nice to have:

  • Previous experience in research and development

The weekly working time is 39 hours. This position is also available on a part-time basis.
