Speech Language and Hearing Pathologist - Bright Futures Academy - External Candidates

JOB DESCRIPTION:

Primary

Purpose:

To reduce or remediate communication deficits which interfere with the student's ability to derive full benefit from the district's educational program.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Major Responsibilities and Duties

Instructional Management

* Assists staff in observing, describing, and referring suspected speech and language disorders.

* Participates in ARD committee and placement committee decisions for students being considered for speech and language services as needed.

* Provides and/or interprets speech-language assessment data which leads to appropriate diagnosis.

* Provides appropriate speech-language therapy programs in a variety of settings designed to remediate specific student disorders.

* Assists administrators and support teaching personnel in interpreting program procedures.

* Maintains current knowledge of Federal and State Education laws and regulations including licensure regulations.

School/Organizational Climate

* Collaborates with classroom teachers, school staff and administrators to aid student progress.

School/Organizational Improvement

* Assists staff in the collection and maintenance of appropriate student records necessary for compliance and monitoring.

* Actively assists campus personnel in meeting campus action plan objectives.

Administration and Fiscal/Facilities Management

* Order necessary supplies and materials within allotted budget.

* Manages test and therapy materials in a fiscally responsible manner.

* Assures student/parent information is handled in a confidential manner.

* Maintains accurate required student records.

Student Management

* Implements individualized and group intervention programs for students with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) based on IEP goals, evaluation data, and evidence based practices.

* Supports development of functional communication, social communication, and self advocacy skills to increase student access to the educational environment.

* Uses data driven decision making to monitor student progress and adjust instructional strategies and interventions as needed.

* Collaborates with multidisciplinary team members to implement consistent behavioral, communication, and instructional supports across settings.

* Assists in the development and implementation of visual supports, structured routines, and communication systems appropriate to student needs.

* Promotes positive behavior supports and proactive strategies to address communication related behaviors.

* Ensures services are delivered in compliance with IEPs, state and federal regulations, and district procedures.

* Maintains accurate documentation of services, progress monitoring, and student outcomes related to ASD programming.

Professional Growth and Development

* Maintains membership and participates in professional organizations and/or updates professional skills through staff development activities.

* Maintains state licensure and ASHA certification.

* Performs other duties as assigned by the immediate supervisor and/or superintendent

School/Community Relations

* Provides information and support to parents and families

* Assists in referrals to appropriate community agencies and specialists.

* Attendance at work is an essential function.

EXPERIENCE:

QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum

Education/Certification:

* Master's degree in speech-language pathology from an accredited college or university

* Valid Texas license as a speech-language pathologist granted by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR) or Bachelor's degree and valid Texas Education Agency speech therapy certificate

* Valid Texas driver's license

* Eligible for coverage under the District's vehicle insurance program

Special Knowledge/

Skills:

* Skills in diagnosis of communication disorders

* Skills in development and implementation of therapy plans based upon identified needs
