Responsibilities
- Manage specific departmental budgets from a planning, purchasing, accounts receivable, and accounts payable perspective.
- Handle office tasks such as filing, generating reports and presentations, setting up meetings, and reordering supplies.
- Screen phone calls and route callers to the appropriate party.
- Use computers to generate reports, create presentations, and conduct research.
- Enter data into case management systems such as the National Electronic Disease Surveillance System (NEDSS) and EzEpi to comply with state law and the Texas Health and Safety Code.
- Communicate with state agencies regarding database concerns, update procedural changes, and attend trainings on NEDSS.
- Create, organize, and maintain active program files.
- Communicate with county partners—home health agencies, nursing homes, hospitals, and physicians—to collect and verify complete data.
- Collect information on functional and medical needs populations, gather sensitive medical information, and enter data into the database.
- Conduct weekly downloads of state data on functional needs populations and reconcile it with local information.
- Prepare and send bulk correspondence to community partners as necessary.
- Perform daily runs of electronic lab reports received via a secure data network from state health services; assist with epidemiological investigations.
- Contact medical providers to complete disease reporting information.
- Participate in activities related to emergency management during a local state of disaster as directed by appropriate county managers.
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Two years of college or technical training in public health, business, biology, microbiology, or allied health (preferred).
- Three years of clerical and data entry experience.
- Skilled in data entry and maintaining multiple data sets.
- Excellent typing skills.
- Knowledge of computer applications and medical terminology.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to interpret policies and implement procedures.
Hourly: $18.31 – $22.89 based on qualifications.
