* Represent DFPS in court hearings, bench trials, jury trials, and required non-court meetings.
* Review, investigate, and prosecute civil cases; present cases before judges and juries.
* Conduct legal research and prepare pleadings, motions, discovery, and briefs.
* Collaborate with DFPS caseworkers, supervisors, regional attorneys, attorneys’ ad litem, and CASA supervisors and volunteers.
* Provide 24/7 legal advice during on-call weeks (every third week).
* Mentor and assist other employees; assign and review work as needed.
* Participates in activities and duties related to emergency management during a local state of disaster as directed by appropriate county managers.
** MINIMUM

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

*** Doctor of Jurisprudence degree.
* Licensed by the Texas Supreme Court. Certified in the Federal District Court, Southern District of Texas and Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals.
* Minimum of 4 years of relevant legal experience; preference for family law and child protective services.
* Strong verbal/written communication and organizational skills.
* Ability to work effectively with the public, colleagues, and elected officials.
* Valid Texas Driver's License is required.
** STARTING SALARY RANGE:**  $4,062.40 - $5,078.40 biweekly based on qualifications
