JOB DESCRIPTION:
Primary
Purpose:
Under the direction of the Director of Communications, the Communications Specialist supports district wide internal and external communication efforts while coordinating professional translation and language-access services. This position helps ensure district communication is clear, accurate, timely, culturally responsive, and accessible to all stakeholders.
The Communications Specialist assists in the development and dissemination of communication materials that support district initiatives, campuses, programs, and events while also managing translation needs across the district.

Responsibilities and Duties:
Communications
* Develop, write, edit, and disseminate communication materials including website content, flyers, newsletters, stories, parent communications, scripts, graphics, and promotional materials
* Support district branding and communication standards across all content and platforms
* Collaborate with campuses and departments to identify communication needs and support district initiatives
* Assist with website updates and digital content management
* Support district events, campaigns, and communication initiatives
* Assist with photography, storytelling, and content collection as needed
* Provide communication support during district events, meetings, and presentations
* Assist with data entry and administrative support as needed
* Model high standards of professional integrity and maintain confidentiality of privileged information
* Support additional communications projects and duties as assigned
Translation Services
* Coordinate and fulfill district translation requests in a timely and accurate manner
* Coordinate interpretation requests with approved district vendors and service providers
* Translate and proofread academic, operational, and community-facing documents including assessments, handbooks, presentations, video scripts, and district messaging
* Ensure translated materials are culturally responsive, accurate, and aligned to district communication standards
* Support language-access efforts to ensure families and stakeholders have equitable access to district information
* Maintain organized records of translation requests and completed projects
* Collaborate with campuses and departments to identify language-access needs and provide appropriate support
Policies, Reports, Records, and Law
* Prepare correspondence, forms, reports, etc., for the Director of Communications.
* Maintain physical and digital departmental files.

EXPERIENCE:
QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum Education /Certification
* Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university preferred
* Professional translation certification from an accredited institution preferred
Language Requirements
* Bilingual required (English/Spanish)
* Advanced proficiency in written and spoken Spanish
Special Knowledge/
Skills:
* Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
* Knowledge of translation standards and language-access practices, preferably in educational setting
* Ability to write, edit, proofread, and adapt messaging for diverse audiences
* Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and accuracy
* Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines in a fast-paced environment
* Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and digital communication platforms
* Ability to collaborate effectively with campuses, departments, families, and community members
* Understanding of district branding and communication standards
* Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism
* Skilled in writing, graphic design, communications, and public relations
* Ability to meet established deadlines while working multiple projects

Ability to concentrate (detailed work), communicate effectively (verbal and written); interpret policy, procedures, and data; reason, understand verbal instructions, analyze, differentiate, memorize, read, coordinate district functions, compile, compute, instruct, and maintain emotional control under stress.
Moderate lifting and carrying (15-44 pounds), sitting, climbing, pulling, pushing, repetitive hand motions, hearing, speech, visual acuity, distinguishing colors, driving, travel (frequent Districtwide and occasional statewide), photography, prolonged or irregular hours.
