the human resources department is accepting applications for the temporary and part-time position of activity instructor in the parks, recreation, and libraries department. The department is seeking enthusiastic instructors to lead planning, teaching, and evaluating classes and activities. This is a year-round position and is limited to 25 hours per week for a maximum of 1,000 hours per fiscal year. The work schedule will vary by program and season and may include evening and weekends.
compensationinstructors are paid per participant based on total enrollment, activity and level of experience required. If enrollment does not meet the minimum number of participants, and the instructor along with city staff decide to run the program regardless of enrollment minimum, the instructor will be compensated per participant or at a minimum of $16.90 per hour, whichever is higher.

all candidates meeting the minimum qualifications will have their application scored in a formula rate examination. The applicant’s experience and education will be evaluated using a pre-determined formula. Scores from this evaluation will determine applicant ranking and placement on the employment list. Supplemental questions will be utilized by the department hiring authority to make interview and selection determinations.
final appointment is contingent upon a check of past employment references, fingerprint check, pre-employment medical exam, drug and alcohol screening, credit check, license and/or education verification, psychological examination, and/or extensive police department background check process. Some positions require pd background clearance within 12 months of appointment; if not cleared, security access may be limited and the candidate may be released without appeal rights per personnel rules.
