. The ideal candidate will be enthusiastic, fun, and responsible, while maintaining safety and positive behavior of participants.

important notice

this position is a training/learner position and is paid at 85% of the minimum wage for no more than 160 hours of employment.

responsibilities
  • assist with planning and promotion of recreation programs.
  • assist with supervision of youth activities.
  • perform other related duties as assigned.
experience and training experience

none required. Job experience training certification is desirable.

training

completion of the ninth (9th) grade and fourteen (14) years of age by the beginning of summer programs.

license or certificate

possession of, or ability to obtain, cpr and first aid certifications within six (6) months of hire.

note: minors may have preclusions or restrictions in duties assigned and licenses required pursuant to 29 cfr § 570.

selection process

all candidates meeting the minimum qualifications will have their application scored in a formula rate examination. The applicant’s experience and education will be evaluated using a pre-determined formula. Scores from this evaluation will applicant ranking and placement on the employment list. Supplemental questions will be utilized by the department hiring authority to make interview and selection determinations.

final appointment is contingent upon a check of past employment references, passing a city-paid fingerprint check, and depending on the position applied for, a pre-employment medical exam, drug and alcohol screening test, credit check, license and/or education verification, psychological examination, and/or an extensive police department background check process. Some positions require clearance of a comprehensive police department background check within 12 months of appointment.
