Job SummaryThe Outside Plant Engineer will play a crucial role in the planning, design, and implementation of our outside plant network infrastructure. The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing the installation, maintenance, and expansion of our fiber optic and other outside plant facilities along with budgets, design, implementation and follow through fiber builds and FTTH designs. Work side by side with central office to verify capacity of fiber plant and backbone fits the needs of the design.
Contact and maintain relationships with municipalities, towns, villages, and city districts for expansion. Maintaining the integrity of Empire fiber plant. Drawing, processing, tracking, and coordinating service orders for customers. Follow through process of permit application and final permitting. Process and complete build outs with staking sheets, permits, splicing documents, etc. Bidding and issuing purchase orders via accounting to award make ready.
Work with residential customers for easements and right of way.
- Designing and budgeting builds in neighborhoods and cities for Empire FTTH growth.
- Contacting land or property owners to share design and gain approval for cable placement and service orders.
- Responsible for properly permitting construction projects and for maintaining maintenance permits in the various municipalities that Empire operates in.
- Developing standards and utilizing a vast array of equipment and techniques to feed underground neighborhoods and aerial facilities.
- Become proficient in understanding fiber network construction, design and develop a thorough understanding of fiber optic specifications. Both backbone and central office equipment.
- Performs other duties as necessary.
- Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills.
- Knowledge of roadways and pole owners.
- Multi-tasking, project management, ability to work alone or with a group.
- Ability to read maps and work with mapping systems, Google Earth, Excel, and Email.
- Knowledgeable in outside plant engineering practices and the telecommunications industry.
- Valid PA Driver’s License.
- 6-8 week on call rotation with other engineers- after training.
- Two-year associate degree and five or more years of industry experience with a minimum of two years in telephony.
- Work with KMZ, KML, PDF and JPEG files.
- Previous training experience.
While performing the duties on the job, the employee is occasionally exposed to outside weather conditions.
Pay Range$60,000 - $90,000 per year depending on experience.
