Design Engineer

Job Responsibilities & Requirements Overview

Designs truss components and truss repairs for MiTek customers and creatively solve engineering issues our customers have.

• Creatively design field repairs for truss components in accordance with acceptable engineering principles and judgment.
• Design truss components based on specified parameters from customers and use knowledge of engineering and the building codes along with collaboration with other engineers in the office to ensure designs protect the health, safety and welfare of the public.
• Discuss design modifications and review appropriate design methodologies with customers.
• Assist, train and counsel customers in troubleshooting issues and design problems.
• Review results of the truss design software for accuracy and collaborate with other engineers and the software development team to determine how the software should function.
• Collaborate with engineers, architects and building officials on customer component design projects.

• Bachelor's Engineering required.
• Equivalent combination of experience and education which clearly indicates the ability to perform the essential functions of the position may substitute on a year‑for‑year basis.
• Up to 1 year of related experience required.
• Ability to perform technical skills including algebra, trigonometry, geometry, basic calculus, physics, statistics and strength of materials, structural analysis.
• Ability to read and understand prints and schematics.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
• Engineer‑in‑Training (EIT) – any state board preferred.

• Perform work accurately and thoroughly.
• Actively attend to, convey and understand the comments and questions of others.
• Solid engineering/technical skills, including attention to detail.
• Outstanding safety record and follow all safety policies and procedures.
• Demonstrate accuracy and thoroughness. Monitor own work to ensure quality. Apply feedback to improve performance and look for ways to promote quality.
• Meet productivity standards without diminishing quality of work. Strive to increase productivity, keep waste down and complete work in a timely manner.
• Take responsibility for own actions, follow instructions and respond to management directions.
• Volunteer and undertake self‑development activities. Seek increased responsibilities, take independent action and offer assistance whenever needed.
• Interact professionally with others, including co‑workers, vendors and customers.

• 5% domestic travel as necessary.

This role is performed in an office environment where a computer, telephone and other office equipment are used as needed to perform the duties of the role.
