The Opportunity Designer – Physical Design (Substations, Buildings & 3D Modeling)

We’re seeking a passionate and skilled Designer to join our dynamic team. In this role, you’ll play a key part in bringing complex power infrastructure projects to life through detailed physical design and 3D modeling. You’ll work alongside engineers and fellow designers to develop innovative solutions for substations, buildings, and other utility infrastructure while gaining hands‑on experience with cutting‑edge design technology.

What

You’ll Do
  • Develop detailed physical designs and construction deliverables for substations, buildings, and related infrastructure projects.
  • Create and maintain 2D drawings and 3D models using industry‑standard design software.
  • Assist with substation physical layouts, equipment arrangements, grading concepts, and building design coordination.
  • Ability to complete assignments primarily based on verbal direction and/or redline markups.
  • Actively engage and participate in collaborative whiteboarding and design development sessions.
  • Coordinate design concepts and resolve design challenges as they arise.
  • Work closely with engineers and multidisciplinary team members to develop practical and constructible design solutions.
  • Ability to learn quickly and apply lessons learned to future work.
  • Take ownership of assigned projects, ensuring work is completed accurately, efficiently, and on schedule.
  • Prioritize tasks effectively and maintain a sense of urgency when needed.
  • Excel at learning by doing, problem solving, persevering, focusing on key results, and listening.
  • Actively participate in continually improving internal design standards, workflows, efficiencies, and quality.
  • Maintain meticulous and organized project documentation and file structures.
  • Contribute to an honest, collaborative, and open work environment.
  • Continuously expand technical design knowledge and proficiency in 3D modeling and drafting tools.
What We’re Looking For

Must be authorized to work in the United States as this position is not eligible for sponsorship.

Expertise: 2+ years’ work experience as an electrical/mechanical/civil Drafter or Designer

Technical

Skills:

  • Proficiency with AutoCAD & MS Excel is required.
  • Proficiency with ETAP, PLS‑CADD, Revit, & Bluebeam. Autodesk Inventor preferred.

Passion: Self‑motivated, collaborative, ability to multitask and possess strong desire to learn new things.

Collaboration: Proven ability to communicate effectively through excellent verbal and written communication skills.
