VP, Land Acquisition | Roseville, CA — Leading Public Home builder

LAR Governance | Underwriting Oversight | Forecast & Pipeline Strategy

A leading national home builder is hiring a VP of Land Acquisition to oversee the Land Acquisition Request (LAR) process and provide executive-level visibility into land pipeline, underwriting quality, and forecast alignment. This role partners with division teams and corporate stakeholders to drive timely approvals, surface risk early, and support strategic planning tied to land and land development commitments.

Key Responsibilities
  • Own and manage the LAR process end-to-end, tracking LARs, Pre-LARs, Land Sales, and revisions through approval.
  • Review submissions for accuracy, completeness, and underwriting quality; coordinate division follow-ups and ensure all questions are resolved before committee decisions.
  • Provide proactive risk flags/“heads up” on complex or challenging deals and continually improve LAR process efficiency.
  • Conduct site visits with division personnel to evaluate acquisitions; ensure appropriate committee site visibility prior to approvals.
  • Support divisions in underwriting and submission preparation, strengthening assumptions, narratives, and backup support.
  • Partner with Corporate Legal to ensure contracts, amendments, and related documents meet policy and review standards.
  • Keep LAR Committee members informed to enable standard and expedited decisions within target timelines.
  • Review and analyze financial forecasts for accuracy and reasonableness, with emphasis on LAR submissions relative to forecast.
  • Monitor land and land development spend forecasts, identify deferral opportunities, and outline cost/risk tradeoffs and decision points.
  • Maintain a monthly memo on the status of significant acquisitions and development commitments.
  • Review land pipeline in support of budget/forecast cycles and assist with strategic planning.
  • Maintain clear communication on LAR status and viability across stakeholders as submissions progress.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or related field preferred.
  • Homebuilding industry experience preferred, ideally with division-level exposure.
  • Strong ability to identify key issues impacting the business and communicate them clearly.
  • Solid judgment, strong interpersonal skills, and comfort partnering cross-functionally.
  • Willingness to travel for site visits as needed.

If you’re a land and underwriting leader who can drive disciplined approvals and keep the pipeline and forecast aligned, we’d love to connect.
