Signal Operations is responsible for the operation and timing of the traffic signals on the Highway System within the Twin Cities Metro area. This position is responsible for providing technical assistance and quality assurance inspections prior to and during construction of traffic signals and ITS systems within the Metro District. It is also responsible for the coordination of signal turn‑ons by utilizing available resources from the Signal Operations Unit and the Contractor verifying that all aspects of the signal have been tested before the turn‑on.
The position also represents the Metro Signal Operation Unit at designated recertification training providing expertise of field inspection for contractors and internal employees.
The Minnesota Department of Transportation does not sponsor applicants for work visas or Optional Practical Training Extensions for STEM Students. Individuals must be legally authorized to work in the US at the start of employment.
This position is located at district headquarters in Roseville and has the flexibility to work in the office or a hybrid schedule that includes in office and teleworking time. If working a hybrid schedule, the incumbent will be required to make a telework arrangement with their supervisor. The incumbent will be expected to work in the office as determined by policy and discussion with their supervisor.
Qualifications Minimum QualificationsTo qualify, Engineering Specialist applicants must meet all the following:
Three (3) years of experience at the Transportation Specialist level (or equivalent) that demonstrates all the following:
- Knowledge and application of traffic engineering principles and standards.
- Knowledge and application of MnDOT Construction Plan content and organization.
- Knowledge and application of Project Management applications, evaluation, and problem‑solving techniques in construction.
- Valid Class D Driver's license.
- MnDOT Signal and Lighting Certification.
