Assistant Project Manager / Estimator (PM-in-Training)

Why this role existsMargolis is growing, and we’re building bench strength in estimating and project management. This is a PM-in-training role, not a purely administrative position. You’ll own real deliverables (takeoffs, RFQs, submittals, CO documentation) and manage smaller projects (typically under $100K) with Senior PM oversight, with a clear path to grow into a lead Project Manager role.
What you will do- 1) Estimating and bidding execution (own)
- Own quantity takeoffs for commercial landscape/site projects
- Own vendor and subcontractor RFQs, follow-up, and quote leveling
- Support building the estimate (cost codes/assemblies, bid forms, scope letters) and final bid submission
- 2) Submittals and project documentation (own)
- Own submittals: collect, assemble, submit, track, and manage resubmissions (including portals as needed)
- Support RFI drafting and tracking as needed
- 3) Change order documentation (own)
- Own CO documentation and backup so approvals move fast (pricing requests, supporting detail, routing)
- Support PMs with project updates and internal tracking so communication is consistent
- 4) Small project management (own, with Sr PM oversight)
- Manage smaller projects under $100K, including basic schedule coordination, stakeholder communication as assigned, documentation, and closeout
- Escalate risk early and stay aligned with Sr PM direction on scope, budget, and CO strategy
- Bids submitted on time
- All key sub and vendor quotes received before bid date
- Submittals processed within 1 month of project award
- Change order documentation prepared and ready for approval within 5 days
- Small projects stay organized, communicated, and profitable with no surprises
- 1 to 3 years experience in commercial construction estimating and/or assistant PM support (landscape or site construction preferred)
- Strong takeoff skills and follow-through with vendors and subs
- Organized, deadline-driven, and detail-focused (do it right the first time)
- Coachable, wants to grow into a lead PM role, and is comfortable being held to standards
- Clear communicator who keeps work moving and escalates issues early
- High-quality commercial landscape construction with real complexity (GC coordination, portals, submittals, COs)
- Strong team support and clear standards built around “dependable excellence”

- Salary (good-faith range): $50,000 to $65,000
