Overview
The Scientist (Microbiome Data Science & Bioinformatics) will translate large datasets into mechanistic and therapeutic hypotheses through omics analysis approaches and create novel analytical methods. The role requires enjoying a fast-paced environment, collaborating with others, and applying expertise to fuel biological discoveries and analytical advancement.
Responsibilities- Lead qualitative and quantitative human microbiome research, including data mining, data analyses, and interpretation of findings from clinical trials and research studies that align with company goals.
- Create, curate and maintain datasets, databases and resources for annotation and use of complex omics data.
- Lead integrated data mining and translation of bioinformatic insights for R&D, pre-clinical and clinical initiatives.
- Conceptualize, build, test, and benchmark gold standard and novel bioinformatic methods.
- Use and improve continuous deployment models, containerization, cloud computing, and agile practices.
- Independently achieve project-specific deliverables with stakeholders (internal and external) through collaboration, requirements gathering, and timeline management.
- Contribute to publications in peer‑reviewed journals and methodological innovations.
- Effectively present and defend scientific work in internal and external presentations.
- Critically evaluate primary literature for design and analysis of appropriate experiments to reach timely project Go/No‑Go decisions.
- Continuously learn in the fields of bioinformatics, computer science and biology including the latest methodologies, techniques, and resources.
- Advanced degree (MS or Ph.D.) in bioinformatics, genomics, biostatistics or related biological field.
- Minimum of one year of experience in omics sciences, preferably the microbiome.
- Proficiency in developing, deploying, and running cloud-based bioinformatic workflows.
- Proven experience in Linux, AWS, coding in Python and R.
- Excellent writing, communication, and organizational skills including documentation & data organization.
- Proven experience in statistical computing for data mining, exploratory analysis and biomarker discovery related to the microbiome or other
-omes.
