Build your best future with the Johnson Controls team. As a global leader in smart, healthy, and sustainable buildings, we help reimagine the performance of buildings to serve people, places, and the planet. Join a collaborative team where your field expertise supports meaningful work, customer success, and opportunities to grow within a culture that values safety, learning, and your ideas.

Role Overview

The HVAC Pre Sales Field Engineer, GCOE supports Johnson Controls HVAC sales associates by completing accurate site surveys, assessing mechanical equipment and control systems, and preparing project design deliverables for pre-sales activity. In this role, you will work closely with Global Center of Excellence application engineers, local branches, subcontractors, and operations teams to help ensure proposals are well-informed, standardized, and delivered on time.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct timely and accurate mechanical equipment or control system surveys and on-site equipment assessments to support pre-sales requests.

  • Coordinate with subcontractor representatives to obtain bid quotes and pricing proposals for project development.

  • Prepare and deliver COE survey documentation and related deliverables using Salesforce, Office 365, and SharePoint.

  • Work with COE application engineers to review project costing estimates with local installation or operations management before handoff to sales.

  • Complete required deliverables, including site survey forms and floorplan drawings with device placement, in line with standardized processes.

  • Maintain familiarity with local subcontractor availability, capabilities, authorities having jurisdiction (AHJ) expectations, regulations, and permitting requirements.

  • Support sales and operations with pre-installation scope of work debriefs to help enable a smooth transition to installation teams.

  • Maintain a strong working knowledge of JCI Controls, Equipment, and Service offerings.

  • Serve as a local point of contact when on-site support is needed to help facilitate customer issue resolution and handoff.

  • Perform activities in alignment with current Johnson Controls policies, procedures, programs, and services.

How You Will Do It
  • Own the accuracy, timeliness, and completeness of your field assessments and deliverables, with safety and integrity guiding every visit.

  • Stay close to the work by gathering the right information on site, anticipating obstacles, and responding quickly to customer and branch needs.

  • Use a disciplined, standardized approach so surveys, drawings, and documentation are consistent and ready for review the first time.

  • Improve every day by asking questions early, validating assumptions, and sharing clear, candid input with sales and COE partners.

  • Win as one team by collaborating with application engineers, local operations, subcontractors, and sellers to keep projects moving smoothly.

  • Keep communication practical and professional so stakeholders understand scope, cost, risk, and next steps.

Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED.

  • 5 years of field experience in HVAC operations, installation/service, or 8 plus years of HVAC sales experience.

  • Minimum of five years of field experience in HVAC, including controls, mechanical equipment, service, and/or equipment maintenance programs.

  • Experience with IP networking common practices, including basic Layer 3 concepts and functions.

  • Experience with computer aided drafting software.

  • Strong written and oral communication skills, along with strong interpersonal skills.

  • Strong problem-solving skills and the confidence to make sound business-conscious decisions in a stressful environment.

  • Strong PC proficiency, including Microsoft Office 365 and SharePoint.

  • Ability to learn JCI-specific platforms, including Salesforce, Selection Navigator, NxGen, and related tools.

  • Strong time management skills with the ability to prioritize and multi-task.

  • Ability to drive to customer and Johnson Controls branch locations.

  • Occasional travel, as needed.

Nice to Have
  • Two years of experience in system design and installation, or service program cost estimating of HVAC controls or equipment in a commercial sales environment.
