Head of Finance and Accounting

Our Client is a vertically integrated real estate investment and asset management firm with a diversified portfolio spanning multifamily and HUD-regulated affordable housing across multiple private equity funds. The platform manages the full investment lifecycle, from underwriting and acquisition through rehabilitation, stabilized operations, and disposition — with integrated capabilities across property management, accounting, HUD compliance, and debt structuring.

This is a senior leadership seat, created to keep pace with the platform's growing fund count and increasingly complex, regulated asset base. Reporting directly to the CEO, this individual will serve as strategic financial partner to the executive team, translating complex financial data across funds, entities, and properties into the insight that drives investment and operating decisions.

This is an opportunity for someone who is ready to lead the finance function behind a fast-moving, multi-state platform, and has spent years mastering fund accounting, financial reporting, and capital markets execution.

• Own consolidated financial reporting across all funds, entities, and properties — leading monthly, quarterly, and annual close, and preparing income statements, balance sheets, cash flow statements, and variance analyses at the asset and fund level.
• Drive budgeting and forecasting, leading the annual budgeting process across Operations, Asset Management, and Accounting, and building rolling forecasts and scenario analyses that inform capital deployment, refinancing, and disposition decisions.
• Oversee fund accounting and investor reporting, coordinating management fee calculations, preferred return tracking, waterfall distributions, and capital account maintenance, while supporting investor reports, capital call notices, and distribution memos.
• Partner on debt and capital markets strategy, working alongside the VP of Investments on agency financing (Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, HUD), construction loans, and bridge facilities, and maintaining debt schedules, covenant compliance tracking, and lender reporting.
• Strengthen compliance and controls, ensuring GAAP, partnership agreement, and HUD regulatory compliance, enforcing internal controls over cash management and AP/AR, and liaising with auditors and tax advisors on annual audits, tax returns, and affordable housing compliance requirements.
• Manage the corporate and operating entity's finances, completing monthly reporting for the asset management operating company and affiliated entities, and directing corporate treasury and budgeting.
• Build and lead the finance team, managing and developing the Fund Controller and Real Estate Accountants, and driving continuous improvement across financial systems, processes, and reporting infrastructure.

• 10+ years of progressive finance experience, including at least 3 years with investment funds; private equity experience strongly preferred
• Prior experience leading, developing, and scaling a finance team
• Fluency in real estate financial concepts: NOI, cap rates, IRR, equity multiples, and waterfall distributions
• Experience spanning market-rate and HUD-regulated multifamily, including Section 8 HAP contracts, LIHTC, and FHA/GNMA debt structures
