Description:

The RN Clinical Periop Nurse is a proactive member of an interdisciplinary team.
This team includes licensed and unlicensed caregivers who ensure that patients and families receive individualized high-quality, safe patient care.
The role is supported through a shared governance model.
The framework for practice is guided by a professional practice model and evidence-based practice.
RN competencies are derived from these models and supported by core competencies.
It is expected that all RN Clinical Nurses are licensed and knowledgeable.
They must uphold the practice of nursing as outlined in the Professional Nurse Practice Act.
These professionals implement the Scope of Practice and Code of Ethics Standards put forth by the relevant nursing association.
As a member of the patient services team, the individual must uphold the voice of the patient and system policies.
The core responsibilities include performing the nursing process: assessment, diagnosis, identification of outcomes, planning, implementation, and evaluation.
They use analytical and critical thinking to ensure that care is individualized.
Coordinating care through effective partnerships is essential for optimal patient care outcomes.
The RN Clinical Periop Nurse provides relationship-based patient-centered care.
Care must be consistent with population-specific characteristics, adapting service delivery to reflect cultural diversity.
Patient engagement is crucial, and the nurse must partner with the patient and significant others appropriately.
This involves using methods for effective communication, such as bedside shift reports and interdisciplinary rounds.
Practicing with current clinical standards is a must, including timely documentation and promoting a respectful environment.
Teamwork and collaboration are vital, emphasizing fiscal responsibility and team member retention.
Participation in performance improvement activities is expected, including research and shared governance.
Professional development through ongoing competency assessments and mandatory education is required.
Serving as a preceptor or mentor for other nursing professionals is encouraged.
Promoting evidence-based practice and nursing research is essential for quality patient care.
Upholding organizational policies and procedures includes ensuring compliance with regulatory standards.
