Job Summary
The RN Clinical Nurse Critical Care is a proactive member of an interdisciplinary team of licensed and unlicensed care providers who ensure that patients, families, and significant others receive individualized high‑quality, safe patient care. This position works in a clinical environment led by Nurse Managers and other leaders, supported by the Wellstar Shared Governance Model.
Core Responsibilities and Essential Functions- Performs the Nursing Process (assessment, diagnosis, identification of outcomes, planning, implementation, and evaluation) using evidence‑based practice and critical thinking.
- Provides relationship‑based, patient‑centered care that adapts service delivery to the patient’s age, gender, disease, and cultural diversity.
- Partners with the patient and family using appropriate methods for setting goals and care plans, keeping them updated throughout the process.
- Uses current clinical practice standards for nursing care.
- Co‑ordinates safe, quality patient‑care documentation and promotes a professional, respectful, inclusive clinical environment.
- Participates in performance improvement, research utilization and shared governance at all levels.
- Completes all initial and ongoing professional competency assessments, mandatory education and population‑specific education.
- Serves as a preceptor or mentor for nurses and multidisciplinary staff.
- Promotes evidence‑based practice, nursing research and performance improvement activities.
- Plans for patient care across the continuum during direct patient care.
- Participates in protocol and procedure development to improve patient outcomes.
- Supports efficient use of resources and performs other duties as assigned.
- Completes all mandatory education required for competency.
- Mentors or preceptors nurses to build a qualified workforce.
- Models professional practice and fosters a healthy work environment.
- Participates in value‑analysis and decision‑making processes for patient‑care products.
- Upholds all applicable policies, legal, regulatory, accreditation requirements, including TJC Patient Safety Goals.
- Collects data, poses relevant clinical questions, consults experts and uses evidence to address practice questions.
- Plans patient care across the continuum.
- Contributes to protocol development.
- Supports effective use of human and material resources.
Minimum Education
Associate’s or Diploma in Nursing, or Bachelor’s in Nursing (preferred).
Required Minimum License(s) and Certification(s)- ACLS (or ARC‑ALS, ACLS‑I, ACLS‑P) – required upon hire; to be obtained within 180 days.
- BLS (or ARC‑BLS, BLS‑I) – required upon hire.
- RN – single state license or RN‑COMPACT.
Additional credentials as required.
Required Minimum ExperienceMinimum 2 years of direct patient care experience.
Required Minimum Skills- Proficient in reading, writing, and speaking English.
- Basic computer skills to support clinical care.
- Strong interpersonal, collaborative, and customer‑service skills.
- Ability to function in a fast‑paced environment and respond to emergencies calmly and respectfully.
- Excellent time‑management and critical‑thinking skills.
