Job Summary

The Care Partner Advanced (CP‑A) is a support care provider who works under the direction of a registered nurse. The CP‑A’s primary focus is to promote a positive patient experience by partnering with patients, families and other health care providers to deliver excellent customer service and assist with daily living activities and comfort measures.

Key responsibilities include basic patient care functions (ADL’s, ambulation), vital signs, approved advanced technical procedures (phlebotomy, simple treatments, dressing changes, oral suctioning, indwelling urinary catheter insertion/discontinuation, telemetry monitoring, 12‑lead EKG), transporting supplies and medications, chart maintenance, and acting as a central communication source on the unit.

The CP‑A must work effectively in a fast‑paced environment, multitask, communicate regularly with the RN, and maintain a compassionate and respectful approach with patients and staff.

Core Responsibilities And Essential Functions Patient Centered Care
  • Perform basic patient care under the direction of the registered nurse (ADLs, ambulation)
  • Transport specimens, equipment, medications, and blood products to and from the assigned unit
  • Answer call lights and telephone promptly and notify the appropriate individual of follow‑up needs
  • Perform advanced technical procedures: phlebotomy, 12‑lead EKG, dressing changes, oral suctioning, indwelling urinary catheter insertion/discontinuation, intermittent catheterization, telemetry monitoring, and peripheral IV discontinuation
Teamwork
  • Support initiatives of the health care team
  • Participate in unit performance improvement initiatives
  • Support professional nursing practice through shared leadership, evidence‑based practice and ethical accountability
  • Assist in orientation of staff and precept nursing technicians on the unit
Patient Safety and Infection Control
  • Provide a safe environment for patient care
  • Consistent use of hand hygiene
  • Follow appropriate PPE and infection control policies
  • Conduct environment of care rounds and purposeful hourly rounding
Communication
  • Use positive, respectful, and effective oral and written communication with all members of the health care team, patients, families, and visitors
  • Communicate patient care concerns, problems, and emergencies to the RN
  • Use safety communication techniques (AIDET, STAR)
  • Act as liaison between patients and diagnostic areas to determine anticipated times for tests or procedures; update white boards with information

Perform other duties as assigned and comply with all Wellstar Health System policies, standards of work, and code of conduct.

Required

Minimum Education
  • Rising Senior in Good Standing, Other, or High School Diploma, General, or GED
Required Minimum License(s) And Certification(s)
  • BLS – Basic Life Support or ARC‑BLS – American Red Cross Basic Life Support or BLS‑I – Basic Life Support Instructor
Additional License(s) And Certification(s)

Must have a valid/current BLS card from the American Heart Association by the first day of employment.

Required Minimum Experience
  • Certified Nursing Assistant upon hire (preferred)
  • Minimum 2 years clinical experience in an acute care setting, long‑term care facility, physician office/clinic, or other direct clinical patient care experience
Basic Medical Terminology

  • Ability to read, write, and speak English
  • Strong customer service and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to collaborate with other health care providers in the provision of patient care
  • Ability to multitask effectively
  • Ability to function in stressful and emergency situations
