Description
Job Summary:The General Laborer performs a variety of physical tasks to support the installation, maintenance, and repair of underground utility systems, including water, sewer, storm drain, gas, and other infrastructure projects. This position requires working outdoors in various weather conditions and assisting equipment operators, pipe crews, and supervisors to ensure projects are completed safely and efficiently.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:- Assist with excavation, trenching, back filling, and grading operations.
- Load, unload, and transport construction materials, tools, and equipment.
- Install and assist with underground utility systems, including water, sewer, and storm drain lines.
- Hand-dig around existing utilities and sensitive areas.
- Operate hand tools, power tools, and small equipment safely and effectively.
- Clean and prepare job sites before, during, and after construction activities.
- Assist in setting grades, laying pipe, and compacting materials.
- Install and maintain traffic control devices and barricades as directed.
- Perform routine maintenance and cleaning of tools, equipment, and vehicles.
- Follow all company safety policies, OSHA regulations, and project-specific requirements.
- Communicate effectively with supervisors, coworkers, inspectors, and utility representatives.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- High school diploma or GED preferred.
- Previous construction or utility experience preferred but not required.
- Ability to perform strenuous physical labor for extended periods.
- Ability to work in trenches, confined spaces, and uneven terrain.
- Must be dependable, punctual, and safety-conscious.
- Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions.
- Valid driver's license preferred.
- Frequently lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 pounds; occasionally more with assistance.
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, crouch, climb, and work in awkward positions throughout the workday.
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions, including heat, cold, wind, and rain.
- Ability to work around heavy equipment and active construction zones.
- Exposure to dust, mud, noise, vibration, and changing weather conditions.
- May require overtime, weekend work, and travel to various job locations.
- Wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) including hard hat, safety glasses, gloves, high-visibility vest, and steel-toe boots.
- Participate in safety meetings and training programs.
- Report unsafe conditions, incidents, and near misses immediately.
