CLASSIFICATION

TITLE:

Graduate-Level Intern

PURPOSE OF CLASSIFICATION
The Clayton County intern(s) will work under the direction of his or her assigned department supervisor as well as of the Chief Operations Officer. The intern will play a leading role in coordinating, facilitating, and managing strategic planning projects that require the involvement of multiple county departments. He or she will be given the opportunity to interact with department heads and attend high-level meetings, and to be exposed to the responsibilities of each department and current county issues.

The intern will meet with the appropriate designee on a monthly basis to review monthly progress and discuss potential new projects, and will be given an opportunity to provide feedback on the value of the experience he or she is receiving. The intern will also perform tasks and daily activities in support of his or her assigned department and the office of Performance Management.

The intern’s interests and goals will be taken into account for special projects.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Develop and enhance department operations performance data systems
  • Provide research and analysis in support of the county’s Envisio system
  • Conduct performance audits and training to departments as requested
  • Research departmental and/or organizational issues
  • Assist departments with developing and revising departmental policies and/or SOP
  • Assist departments with grants management from research to writing of the grant
  • Draft reports detailing research
  • Make recommendations to assigned supervisor and/or county management
  • Manage special projects
  • Support assigned department with creating strategic plans to support the County’s Strategic plan
  • Attend meetings
  • Communicate with community organizations and the public
  • Assist in the budgeting process.

ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS

Performs other duties as assigned by the Solicitor General to include but limited to assisting in the planning, coordinating and execution of community outreach efforts to educate, and elevate public confidence in the criminal justice system in Clayton County.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Must be currently enrolled in an MPA or similar master’s degree program. Has a minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA. The intern(s) must be willing to commit up to 15 hours per week for an 11-month obligation. Experience with Microsoft Office. Good written and verbal communication skills. Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills. Positions will remain open until filled. Several positions may be available for hire.

Tasks require the ability to exert moderate, though not constant physical effort, typically involving some combination of climbing and balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling, and which may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of moderate weight (12-20 pounds).
Sensory Requirements:
Some tasks require the ability to perceive and discriminate colors or shades of color, sounds, and visual cues or signals. Some tasks require the ability to communicate orally.
Environmental Factors:
Essential functions are regularly performed without exposure to adverse environmental conditions.
