Do you have a passion to manage dedicated fleet across multi-state lanes, while also helping to build and professionalize how the operation runs? C&S Chemicals is seeking a Transportation Operations Manager to join our growing Operations team in Roswell, GA.
Position Summary:The Transportation Operations Manager is responsible for the day-to-day dispatch, routing, and driver management of a dedicated fleet across multi-state lanes, while also helping to build and professionalize how the operation runs. This role owns daily dispatch execution: planning efficient, compliant routes, adjusting in real time to disruptions, and coordinating with outside carriers when internal capacity is committed. It also serves as the direct manager and point of contact for the driver group.
Beyond daily execution, this position contributes to how the operation improves over time: helping develop SOPs, owning performance against KPIs (on-time delivery, driver utilization, loads per day, cost per load), and supporting the move toward more proactive dispatching and better dispatch/routing tools. This role requires strong communication and sound judgment under pressure, availability to drivers during off-hours when they are on the road, and a hands-on approach to turning process improvements into lasting practice.
Dispatch & Routing (Daily Execution)
- Build and manage daily dispatch schedules for a dedicated group of C&S drivers across multi-state lanes
- Plan efficient routes that account for loading windows, delivery appointments, transit times, and DOT hours-of-service limits
- Adjust dispatch plans in real time as conditions change: breakdowns, delays, weather, and customer reschedules
- Provide hands-on dispatch coverage when members of the dispatch team are out of office or during staffing transitions
- Serve as the direct manager and day-to-day point of contact for your driver group
- Partner with HR to recruit and hire new drivers
- Coordinate onboarding and training for new drivers; schedule ongoing training and refreshers
- Coach drivers on performance, service, and professionalism; address issues early and fairly
- Conduct performance evaluations and incentive reviews
- Administer corrective action and discipline when needed, consistently and in line with company policy
- Hold routine driver meetings to reinforce safety, policy, and operational updates
- Monitor driver hours and availability to build legal, realistic dispatch plans
- Support driver retention through consistent communication, fair load distribution, and responsive problem-solving
- Ensure adherence to DOT, FMCSA, OSHA, and company safety regulations across the fleet
- Conduct safety audits, ride-alongs, and driver observations
- Support accident investigations, incident reviews, and root-cause analysis; put corrective actions in place.
- Maintain accurate driver hours, HOS logs, and ELD/telematics records
- Coordinate with the Safety Department on driver certifications, driver qualification files, and medical cards
- Tender loads to third-party carriers when internal capacity is committed
- Serve as the point of contact for outside carriers on active loads: pickup confirmations, in-transit updates, and delivery verification
- Track outside carrier performance and flag issues
- Act as the communication hub between drivers, dispatch, customers, and loading facilities
- Partner closely with our CSRs and Account Managers to keep delivery schedules aligned with customer commitments…
