Position Overview
This position is funded through an external grant. Continued employment beyond the fiscal year is contingent upon continued funding. This position is expected to end on 8/31/2026.
Position Summary:
The Trio SSS Peer Tutor provides individualized and small‑group support to TRIO Student Support Services (SSS) participants. The tutor helps students understand course content, develop study strategies, and improve academic performance. The role focuses on enhancing organizational and learning skills and collaborates with TRIO staff to support student success, retention, and degree completion.
- Provide one‑on‑one and small‑group tutoring in assigned academic subjects and academic success skills.
- Assist students in understanding course content, completing assignments, and preparing for exams.
- Support the development of effective study skills, time management, note‑taking, goal setting, and academic planning.
- Adapt tutoring approaches to meet diverse learning needs and styles.
- Lead or assist with group study sessions and workshops focused on academic success and organizational skills.
- Maintain accurate documentation of tutoring sessions, attendance, and student progress.
- Collaborate with TRIO SSS staff to support student retention, engagement, and academic success.
- Promote participation in TRIO academic support services and program resources.
- Perform additional duties as assigned to support program operations.
Job Requirements
- Must have completed at least one semester at ENMU‑R.
- Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 (transcript required).
- Strong knowledge of assigned academic subjects and/or organizational and academic success skills.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain academic concepts and strategies clearly.
- Strong interpersonal, mentoring, and problem‑solving abilities.
- Basic computer literacy, including proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
- Sedentary work with frequent sitting during tutoring sessions.
- Occasional walking between offices, classrooms, or tutoring centers.
- Frequent use of computers for typing, scheduling, and reviewing materials.
- Minimal lifting, typically limited to laptops, notebooks, or light materials.
- Visual and auditory focus required for reviewing assignments and listening to students' concerns.
- Primarily indoor work, with occasional outdoor settings such as offices, libraries, tutoring centers, or virtual sessions.
- Quiet to moderately active setting; tutoring centers may have some background noise.
- Flexible schedule, including daytime, evening, or occasional weekend hours, depending on student availability.
- Requires patience, active listening, and problem‑solving, especially when students are stressed or overwhelmed.
