$29.23 - $43.85 Hourly

Why does the job exist?

This position exists in order for the Technical Support section to be able to develop complex design projects. The position will create structure placements, profiles and cross-sections. The position will utilize AASHTO, Roadside Design Guide, MUTCD, and NMDOT Standard Specifications, standard drawings, and CAD standards. The position will develop and coordinate construction and review plans. The incumbent in the position will review, analyze, design and verify project construction quantities, develop spreadsheets, compute data and prepare reports.

The incumbent will gather research data such as drainage reports, as-builts, bridge plans, traffic counts and scoping reports.

How does it get done?

The incumbent in this position will have extensive computer use utilizing Auto CAD, Civil 3D, MS Word Suite, and Google Earth functions to create complex roadway designs for NMDOT District Two. The incumbent will be required to perform thorough research utilizing these programs listed in order to ensure the complex designs being made will be safe for the traveling public. The incumbent will be required to work in the field to do such things as take measurements, attend preliminary field reviews, and design site visits.

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate should:

Have experience utilizing Auto CAD, Civil 3D, MS Word Suite, and Google Earth functions
Have experience with AASHTO, Roadside Design Guide, MUTCD, and NMDOT Standard Specifications, standard drawings, and CAD standards.

Minimum Qualification

High School Diploma or equivalent and six (6) years of relevant experience. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling six (6) years may substitute for the required experience.

Employment Requirements

Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License. Employment requires successful completion of post offer pre-employment physical. Reference check and Driver's License verification are required and employment is conditional pending results.

Working Conditions

Work is mainly performed in an office setting with some work being performed outdoors. Exposure to:
Visual/Video Display Terminal (VDT), extensive personal computer and phone usage. Communication with the general public and public agencies on a frequent basis. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds. Occasional statewide and out of state travel maybe required.
