POSITION SUMMARY
Responsible for general housekeeping duties in accordance with established standards and instruction. Assists in moving furniture and equipment. Assists in special events set‑ups and other related duties as assigned by supervisor.
DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESEmployee is responsible for all custodial duties as assigned by supervisor. Employee must collect and place trash, recyclables, and other debris in containers or plastic bags. Replaces liners in wastebaskets and trash containers. Vacuums rugs in offices and public areas. Cleans and dusts furniture, filing cabinets, counters, exhibit cases and pictures. Washes windows, window sills and other glass surfaces. Cleans walls and floor surfaces, often working on ladders.
Moves heavy furniture and miscellaneous equipment as directed. Reports items requiring repair (doors, furniture, lights, faucets, etc.). Manages snow removal from steps and walkways adjacent to buildings. Cleans locker/shower areas, restrooms, and all fixtures, replenishing soap and paper goods. Maintains light fixtures, registers, grills, and other hardware. Sweeps, mops and scrubs floors, stairs and other surfaces. Scrubs, strips, waxes and polishes floors using heavy industrial scrubbers and buffers.
Adheres to all safety standards and work practices set by the Facilities Maintenance Department, wearing protective equipment as required, inspecting safety equipment daily, and reporting defective equipment to supervisor. Employee must also understand and follow County Personnel Policy and all County safety policies.
REQUIRED:
EXPERIENCE AND/OR EDUCATION
High School diploma or G.E.D. Two years’ experience in custodial work.
CERTIFICATIONS/TRAININGValid NM driver’s license.
ABILITIES/SKILLS- Able to read, write and understand written and oral instructions in English.
- Ability to stand, walk and/or sit and continously perform essential functions for an eight‑hour shift.
- Ability to learn and perform all essential job functions accurately and safely with minimum supervision.
- Ability to lift, carry or move goods weighing up to 75 pounds.
- Ability to climb stairs and ladders as needed.
- Ability to perform tasks requiring bending, stooping, kneeling and walking significant distances.
- Ability to work with minimal direct supervision.
- Visual ability must be corrected to observe and detect signs of dangerous obstacles at a distance of thirty (30) yards.
- Ability to use light and heavy industrial floor‑type machines and attachments.
- Must maintain an acceptable attendance record, punctuality and meet deadlines.
- Must work with other personnel in a pleasant, professional and efficient manner.
The work is somewhat physical, typically requiring the employee to climb ladders, carry heavy items, walk, stand and bend. There may be some sitting comfortably to complete work. The employee may operate a vehicle throughout the county as necessary and some local travel within the boundaries of Chaves County is required. Talking, and seeing are essential to the performance of the job.
Common eye, hand and finger dexterity is required. Mental application utilizes memory for details, verbal instructions and discriminating thinking.
